Differences in 98-02 cars

I have noticed some year specifications in looking at some parts catalogs and was wandering what changes have been made to the current LS1 cars since 98. Sorry for the newbie question but I am trying to learn.

Thanks

Body wise, practically nothing, 01-02 models got the LS6 manifold, so all got +5 HP, other than that I dont know

Air lid 98-99 did not have air pump hose connected to it.01-02 does.
98-99 had stainless exhaust manifolds, 00-02 cast iron.
y-pipe on 98-99 welds on, 00-02 bolt on.
98-00 have a visable egr valve front of the passenger side head, 01-02 dont.
01-02 got the LS6 manifold, block, and some other stuff, cams were different too.
98-99 had the 5 spoke flower looking wheel(16x8)00-02 had some ugly wheel(16x8), SSs' had the ZR1 17x9 wheel for 98-99, 00-02 had the 10 spoke in chrome or silver, but you could get the ZR1s chrome as another option. there is probly more thats all I can remeber right now!

Is there a performance gain to be made in just the ls6 block, i.e. stregnth in any part of the engine over the ls1, more main or head bolts or different positions. Do the 98-00 cars have the same modification potential as the 01-02? Are there any major drawbacks to the 98-00 cars versus the 01-02 cars except the oil consumption? Just trying to take in all the information that I can about these cars. Thanks again.

Body Changes...

1998-1999 Z28 and SSs had black mirrors, the later LS1s mirrors were the same color as the body...

I personally feel anyone should buy the newest one they can afford. It's kind of like buying a 911, they got better every year.

Power steering oil cooler on the '02 from the factory. They added it in on the top radiator hose. Welcome to the F-Body fun. Later>>>>>

If memory serves me, the biggest difference in the LS6 block was improved windage clearancing.
