Arrow Differences: Z28 vs SS

What are the main differences?

- Specs
- Insurance
- Value

and how easily can a Z28 be made to compete with an SS from mods that you would do by yourself or get installed?

I'm looking into a car near the beginning of October and i was wondering which to choose.. any words of wisdom??

Well, I -thought- that the differences were only the "Ram" air induction, exhaust, and a few other misc appearance things.

So performance-wise, just modify the intake and exhaust, and they should be even, IMHO.

What other differences are there? I'm listening to learn, too.

Power steering cooler (can't live without one ) 17 inch wheels, SS spoiler, SS hood, fine tuned (or something of that sort) suspension and those of you that didn't notice there are SS logos on the car.

Insurance on a SS costs more but I have recently argued this subject on another post many people say it costs the same to insure but I say it costs more to insure because its worth more.

Performance wise I agree with the first post.

Actually as I recall guys got all over me, correcting me that an SS does not cost more to insure.

the truth is the SS cost more because its an SS, a "cooler" car. It has minimal improvements that if any offer maybe 10hp from a different muffler.Oh and a fewer heavy suspesion parts like a sway bar. The ram air is not sealed so not giving more hp. If you want an SS pay $4000 more and enjoy it. Lots of us opted for the boring z28. And do some mods. And know that the sleeper looking cars will gobble up stock ss's & vettes. Either way you win!

Heres the way that I and most of the people I talk to percieve the difference on the Z28 and the SS. If you plan on keeping your car relativly stock go with the SS, but if you plan on turning it into a real drag car go with the Z28 the money you save on it will allow you to buy more mods that do more than just the SS hood.

And as a side note SS hasnt really been worth much since the late 60s early 70s, today its just a apperance package with a little horsepower.

And I can talk crap about SS cause I also own a 70 Chevelle SS 454 that my farther gave to me when he passed on.

so let's say i find a nice Z28 for around $15-16K .. that could be a 00 or atleast a 99..

let's say that i get an SLP cold air induction and the SLP loudmouth exhaust... now where am i compared to an SS as far as HP goes

and then a nice suspension kit for under $1000 would make it handle just as nice?

I wish I didn't live in a really high economy area, I would be a happy camper if I could buy a 99-00 Z28 for 15-16k.

Performance wise that would be close. The SS is a little bit more of an appearance package then performance.

the differences are only minor and if your looking for a 2000 then the prices won't be much differnt either, maybe $1500. IMO the looks of the SS are better and i would base my decision on simply what is availble because you can always buy the ss hood for the looks. The SS insurance is just a little more. and don't forget to consider a firebird too, again the only difference is looks.

$15-16K is a little hopeful... but if i keep looking around.. they have been known to come down that low

the SS's are usually really overpriced though.. a 98-99 in good shape is probably around $20K unless u find a good deal

hehe i'm getting my 98 Camaro Z28 for $14,9995 including Tittle and Taxs with a airbox mod, and a nice sounding 3 inch exhuast, i think it has about 340 hp, so i think i'm making off with a deal, the only thing i seen better was on ebay, but i don't got $13,000 straight out of my pocket

I recently picked up an 02 Z28 M6 with hurst shifter and thats it! For $18K ttl after all the rebates

Since then I have modded it with a K&N FIPK and Magnaflow catback. So far I am 700 bucks down.

I'm looking to add some 18" wheels and low profile tires for about 1.5K and Hooker LT headers with ORY for another 700.

For 3K of mods my Z turns out faster and still stylish for a lot less than an SS.
