Driveablity problems with torque conver install?

How is daily driving after changing to like a 2800-3000 stall converter? obviously it makes your car achieve much better 60' times. but how much does gas mileage suffer and does it make the car suck to drive in normal driving conditions?? thanks
98 Z28 A4 2.73s ... also im sure I would have to buy some DRs at the same time

Talking driveability

Just put a 2800 stall from midwest torque converters in my 99 last week($450) and ($225 to install). It take a few more r's to get up to speed. It's a lock-up, so on the ighway the mileage is the same. Went to the coast saturday and still got 21 mpg with 3:73 gears! Not bad. City milage may be down a little. But the fun of the stall more than makes up for that!

Gas, you'll go thought it like water...on the street ofcourse...hwy. isn't too bad...as for driving conditions...a low STR converter is best...alot of Midwest TC's are running a 3.0 STR..which IMO is hard on you rear end, Yank SY3500 is IMO the most popular of the bunch, with an STR of 1.6, you get a nice soft launch but still manage to get great 60 ft times...on drag ties

It all comes down to what you want to do with the car, nitrous? blower? daily driver? etc?

good luck

STR stands for Stall Torque Ratio

The torque converter multiplies the engine's torque at the stall point by the STR. For example if you have a converter with an STR of 2.0 and you put out 300 ft-lbs of torque at the stall point, then the transmission input shaft will "see" 600 ft-lbs of torque initally. A higher STR gives a harder launch.

Your gas milage around town will go down but to say you'll go though gas like water is a little excessive. I have a ST3500 and I've lost 1 maybe 2 mpg around town. On the STR I will say for street use 2.5-3.0 is a little, ok, a lot harder to hook than a 1.6 with street tires. But at the track you'll love it with drag tires.

thanks guys really good info... I am really considering a torque converter instead of gears, or maybe before gears
