Engine overheating...

Ok, well while in heavy trafic/long rides(even at under 2k rpms, 6th gear 60-90). it seems that my motor over heats, it prob from living in New Orleans, always in the 90s this time of year, once it cooler(when i first got car) it never got this hot... just driving around town it goes a good bit past the 210 mark, never to the third marker, unless im racing/hard on it, which i havnt done lately in fear of overheating... last time i was at track, after every pass i had to let it cool down for 10-15 minutes hit the 3rd marker once... scared me....

would this....

solve my problems??

thanks

Re: Engine overheating...

hmmmm....

Well first of all your car should always run right around the 210 marker when the car has warmed up completely.

It should never go to the third marker.... ever!

Did you or the previous owner mess with the water pump pulley?

My Vette runs a bit hotter then my WS6 but it's because GM decided not to run the freaking fans until 220...

First thing I would do is flush your radiator and get some nice fresh coolant in there.

Then I would question your water pump... seen a few LS1's go in to the shop for bad WP's.

But if your that worried, get a 160 stat, new aluminum radiator, new water pump, and program the fans to come on earlier. Screw the fan switch.

Your car should be a freaking ICE cube

And by the way,

The dealer can program your fans to come on at any temp you want

Lots of the Vette guys have them do this.

I would suspect that you're cooling fans are not working right. I've got 2 LS1 cars and have never seen either one goe past about a needles width over 210.
