Exhaust upgrade for SS

Ive got a 99' Camaro SS LS1 6-speed, and was wanting to get a full exaust for it i want a good balance between sound and performance and i dont want a "loud mouth" exhaust its a bit too loud. i was thinking maybee flowmaster. does anyone have any suggestions about headers, Ypipe, Cats and Muffler?

Check the sponsors' websites here along with www.ls1sounds.com.

My opinion...true duals are great! But, dumps can create a bit of interior resonance. Flowmaster is notorious for choking LS1's. Personally, I love the way a Magnaflow sounds with headers. Cats will help tone down the rasp on any system. Not a bad idea, especially if you have to keep it emissions legal.

just keep in mind that certain catbacks like the GMMG, loudmouth, TSP rumbler sound like poo with no cats.

the hooker or magnaflow are great all around catbacks for performance and sound with or without cats

If a cam is in your future mods, get a mufflex 3.5 or 4" or go duals.

Re: Exhaust upgrade for SS

a 4" for a N/A car is overkill unless you are going to spray the **** out of it

flowmasters are total crap.... they rust like they live in the ocean

go with some longtubes and a e cutout....keep the stock catback

loud and nasty when you want it........almost sounds stock with it closed

If a NA V6 can pick up nice gains w/a 3" an LS1 can handle the 4". A single 3" chokes even a stock LS1. Think about it, stock is 2.75. Wow, you just pick up a mere .25" w/a 3". People run dual 3" NA all the time and get gains over a 3".

Re: Exhaust upgrade for SS

The LoudMouth sounded awesome (with both factory manifolds and headers) until I ditched the cats. I cut out the resonator and welded in a Borla XR-1. Sounds insane and has no rasp or drone. Not a timid set-up, but works for me and the stainless steel is an added bonus for the price...

Re: Exhaust upgrade for SS

thanks for the info! if you dont mind me asking why does everynody hate flowmasters? is magnaflow really a better choice? cause i plan on keeping my stock cats, and the headers have to be emissions legal.
Should i go true dual and use an Xpipe?

Thanks!

your car comes with a y pipe... so if your keeping the manifolds or shorty headers and cats i have never heard of a system that is a X pipe or H pipe for them... im sure someone can fab up something for you though

everyone hates flow master because it is such a restrictive exhaust system...

Because the Flowmaster muffler designed to fit an F-body is more restrictive than a stock muffler. Who in their right mind would pay money to change to a cat back that slows their car down?

I put Jet Hot long tubes without cats and a Hooker Aerochamber on a 98 for a friend and was totally amazed at the soft mellow rumble at idle, good solid rumble at speed and roar at WOT. Very nice.

On the contrary... Texas Speed and Performance makes a true dual system with an X pipe... They are dumps of course, and use mufflers like the Moroso Spiral Flow or Dynomax bullets... They are designed for LT headers but with a little bit of pipe and welding, they can sure fit on manifolds or shorties. Pretty loud I'm sure but still a true dual 3" setup, if you don't mind the interior noise of dumps. Here's the address: http://texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp...d=196&catid=56
