Exclamation FACT: Stock 99 SS rims are 9.5" wide

Unfortunately, false information sometimes gets out on these boards. A few weeks ago there was a debate over the size of GMs stock rims. I measured my ZR1 style rims that came stock with my 99 SS and they are 9.5" wide (internal). Some were swearing that the stock size is 9.0" wide.

Well it was a concern because I was trying to determine if I could fit Nitto 315 DRs on my rims, the extra 1.2 inch makes all the differnce. If they were 9.0 " wide the Nitto 315s wouldn't work.

Question

I guess if the 1999 Camaro brouchure says 17x9" and SLP is still selling 17x9" wheels of the same style/description, I can see why they might think they are 17x9" instead of 17x9.5".

I measured my 10 spoke ss wheels from inside bead to inside bead and they are 9.0" wide.

I just mesaured my Chrome stock '00 rims. And I am getting 9.5 on my meauring tape from edge to edge. I have 275's on there and they fir perfect, no extra rubber sticking ot hiding in the rim.

Newer guys thanks for the report. Like I said on my stock 99 SS (ZR1 style rims) the rim width is 9.5 from inside the bead to inside the bead. GM says they are 9", slp say 9", if you go and look at any after market supplier of the same exact rim (ref:tbyrne.com) they all say 9.5".

More importantly, since the Nitto drag radials run very narrow for their stated size, a 315 will fit on the stock 9.5" wide rim, FYI for those who want to run DRs.

From the T Byrne site "17x9 Painted, 2000 Camaro SS Style wheels, (take-off)" looks like 9" to me, if GM says they are 9", i'll stick with 9". I'm not that worried about trying to squeeze q 315 tire on my wheels. I'd go to a 17x11 to get a better fit.
