Fast toys Ram Air?

Hey guys, I am getting another mod for my car and was thinking about getting the ftra. Im just wondering how hard installation is. I am not very skilled and dont want to buy this unless I can install it. I have put in my lid but that was not very hard. Do I have to drain coolent or anything for the ftra or is it just a direct bolt on infront of the radiator? Can you notice gains from this? Thanks.

i would buy the Austin ram air (link in sig) i think it's a more effective designe and is made out of plastic so it is more forgiving if you hit a curb.

the effects at speed are great...pulls great above 80mph

install is as simple as a pair of pliers, a screw driver and a small saw of some kind to cut some plastic from under the air filter. i used a broken hack saw blade and a pair of vise grips to hold it....worked like a charm.

took me about 2 hours working nice and slow and doing all the cutting (most time consuming part).

I installed my FTRA myself, would've been easier with a helper though. A dremmel makes cutting the airbox a snap. You can view their install directions at www.fasttoys.net/ramairinstructions.htm

The SSRA made by Austin Performance Inc. is a very easy install. Go ahead and do the free ram air(FRA) mod. You will have to do this for any of the ram air kits anyways. This is the most time consuming portion of the install. If you have this done, install only takes about 15 minutes. Go to www.installuniversity.com This will tell you how to do the FRA. According to their instructions you cut the shrouds. Save your shrouds and time by just taking them out. With the SSRA you have to remove them

Thanks for the great info guys. I looked up the instructions for the fast toys ram air, and was kinda intimidated because it had like 25 steps to it. IF it is as easy as you say, i will do the free ram air and then get the super sucker set up. Thanks again.

With the FTRA you have to drill the radiator cross support. People break lots of drill bits doing this. No drilling needed with the SSRA.

It's not hard to do, but I don't recommend it.

The whole ram air theory on cars is kind of fishy and the arguable gains are so small that it's not worth getting the filter dirty IMO.

To be fair I should say it definitely won't hurt your performance though. (assuming you keep the filter clean)
