First mod. Need suggestions.
Hi, It is my first time here and I just bought a 99 camaro ss. I was wondering what my very first mod should be. I hear a lot of talk about one mod not being able to work to potential without another one done and so forth. So i was wondering with a plain stock camaro ss what is the first thing you would do? Thanks a lot.

Welcome aboard !!
Nice year SS, BTW !
Is yours Pewter ? Sorry - I only answer questions asked by Pewter '99 owners - you'll have to go to another department otherwise.
J/K !
Your best bet is to read thru here:
http://www.installuniversity.com/
They have some great articles.
Free Ram Air is a good one, but you may not want to do that to your car - ?
I'd say go for the throttle stop mod, a lid, and the EGR mod.
Happy modding !

i think you can call slp for your #...if you have a stick car id say go with some long tube headers and off road y pipe...if you have an auto id say get a 3500-3800 stall converter as your first mod as a converter will gain you around 3-7 tenths depending on traction the headers will e worth probably 2mph in the 1/4 mile and depending on the brand you go with they can be really good bang for the buck...with a manual car and lt's you would be close to 110mph in the quarter right off the bat.

I just installed my air-box lid last weekend. It was a quick and easy mod, that would be a good start. I went with SLP's air-box lid, but no matter which brand you go with, they are about the same. Sorry, I don't know too much about the FIPK, but I do know you can install either that or the air-box lid (one or the other).

since its a manual, if you still have the stock shifter, I'd recommend replacing it with a nice aftermarket one.... Like Pro 5.0 or ripper.. (don't bother asking which one is better)
The stock shifter has a rubber isolator, and the stick itself made of rubber.. its quiet, but feels rubbery..
that and the skip shift elimintaor, if its not already done.

mods? do yo uwant per formance or what?
see, all too often people think "got car, must mod" and they dont think of why or what they are wanting out of it.
do you want more power? how about faster 1/4 mile times? or perhaps lower autocross times? Maybe you would prefer looks and appearance over performance?
You should decide what you want before hand then make the proper map to acheive your goals.
I prefer quicker 1/4 mile times with some quicker lap times so for me, I tend to mod more towards the handling more than the engine.. So far I am still stock but my other Z before was not.
The following are just small mods that are by no means meant for going all out.. just meant as a guide as to where ya may want to start.
So quickies:
1/4 = lower control arms, panhard rod, ES torque arm bushing, ES tranny mount, air bag in right rear
autoX = front sway bar, strut tower brace
power = lid, catback or cutout, maybe headers
appearance = ? I have no idea cause I dont care about this one personally. hehe
In any case, you should get a baseline dyno.. Stay tuned to your local car scene and find out when a car club is having its dyno day and see if you can get your car run. then when you do mods (at least when I do mods) add the cost of a dyno session in so you can see if you are getting anything good out of it. I always find that when you dont go to dyno days, the cost difference between 3 runs and an hour dyno rental to be less than $50 so I just get it for an hour and run alot to get averages.

If you want a better handling car, either straights or corners, get subframe connectors, this should be your first mod...
Ask which ones, you'll get about 5-7 choices, either weld-in ones or bolt-on ones, either way, your car will definitely benefit from SFC's.
