Free Ram Air... The Truth Please!
If I do this mod to my stock 2001 SS, will it really improve HP or throttle reponse? What's the long term pro's and con's to this free mod?
I cannot find a Holly Power Shot air filter..... ANYWHERE! Can anybody help here?

Dunno about the holley filter, but i will try to sum up FRA(free ram air)
Pros: After I performed FRA, I noticed a more sensitive throttle, and a more responsive one as well. Airflow is less restrictive, allowing the engine to breathe better, which in turn gives you some HP/tq.
Cons: Your air filter will get dirtier faster.
This is just my 'review' on the FRA mod. Is it worth it? Definately. Remember, every little bit counts. Just check up on your air filter more often, especially the side where you cut the plastic. A good thing to do is just turn it so that the clean side of the filter is where you cut the plastic. My FRA only took 25 minutes, but I recommend taking your time.

I definitely recommend doing FRA mod. You will notice an improvement in throttle response and horsepower at higher speeds. The ONLY thing to cut is the bottom of the filter tray. Don't cut the top radiator shroud. Just pull it out it. It's easy to do. In fact remove both the top and the bottom shrouds. Be precise when cutting the filter tray. Go all the way to the edges. I recommend a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel or an air saw.
The next thing to do is get a cold air induction kit like the Supersucker(SSRA) This will work in conjunction with the FRA.

I take my Supersucker out when I go to the dealership. It takes about 5 minutes to take it out and put the radiator core support back on. With the FTRA you have to remove bolts and plates and such. It's a pain in the *** to remove. They've never said a thing about the FRA

just use the stock filter.. you arent gaining anything but a cleanable filter.. if you want a filter that offers the same reuseablitiy get an Amsoil.. Its 2 stage foam.. But I have the filters and will still use the Stock paper just cause it does make more power..
I dont really care about reuseability.. if I cant afford a paper filter every 15-20K miles then I have bigger issues...

I have three K&N filters that I rotate between cars, as I remove one I put in the third clean one in, clean the one I just took out, etc. etc.

What is a "Supersucker"?
A Supersucker (SSRA).......?????????????? How does it compare to the Fast Toys Ram Air kit?
Damn, what would I do without you guys? What's the bill for all this knowledge? Just kidding! But really..... now I'm somewhat more confused. You guys say do the "Free Ram Air" and your also saying buy the "Fast-Toys-Ram-Air kit? Where do you buy the FTRA kit? How much ($$) is it? Is installation a breeze or a PITA? Will it void my warranty? Any long term con's to the FTRA? How does the FTRA work? Picks up air under the car? Hell, I thought I was good to go with my stock factory hood SS ram air!
