I've been wanting to perform the FRA but haven't quite found the time. I've even bot the Dremel. New Years Eve I spent in Tampa and got caught in a 6-7" downpour. Has anyone with the FRA driven in a downpour? Did it suck any water into the engine?

Damn 6-7"
I wouldn't even drive it with that much downpour, but just drive slowly on puddles, and you shouldn't have any problems.

It wasn't by choice that I drove thru that downpour. The Formula usually only comes out when the sun is shinning. That was only the second time it's be rained on. As I am planning to do the FRA my question came to mind as I drove thru the rain trying to get back to the motel.

I drove from St. Pete to Lakeland, through Tampa that night with NO PROBLEMS. I have SLP cold air and a lid. Driving a Z in that weather sucks, but I just locked it in 5th or 6th gear and took it slow. The Stock GSCs seem to get pretty good rain traction, if you drive cautiouslly in the rain, I don't think these cars are all that bad....knock on wood

Wasn't that quite a rain! I too was pleasently surprised the way the Formula handled. I was probably the slowest car on I-75 that night thinking I'd be the first to hydroplane but after a few miles I found myself moving with traffic and the Formula never twitched. I have a question about your SLP CAI. Did you do the FRA and then add the CAI at a later date? I was wondering if the hole I cut for the FRA will be the same hole I will use when I install the CAI later this year.

In a word...YES, doing the FRA is the first step in adding the SLP. All you need to do now is to slip the duct down into the area thet you've cut out...simple!

I recommend the FRA mod because even if you decide to buy one of the induction kits later you'll have to do it anyway.

I dont really care about reuseability.. if I cant afford a paper filter every 15-20K miles then I have bigger issues...
With the ram air you need to clean the filter about every 1500 miles so a resuable filter is the way to go. More power with the stock filter? What you been smoking boy?

I've been hearing that the stock ones make more power. What's up with that. Anybody got any links to dyno numbers.

You won't see any gains except for the amount of dirt on your filter from this. You already have cold ram-air induction. Most of the replies to this post are from guys with Z28's - they're going to see a slight gain, but U won't. I recommend you spend your time elsewhere in your project.
