Post FTRA question

I have heard mixed things about sealing the airbox, if a TFRA kit is installed. Does anyone know what the kit says to do?..and why there are mixed opinions about sealing the box?

Thanks in advance

If you don't "seal the box," you won't get the entire effect of the FTRA. The seal is a piece of rubber (similiar to some of the type of home door seals but bigger) that you "clip" onto the front inside of your airbox and block the "factory" intake area. All your air is then "forced" or rammed up through the FTRA through your filter and into you induction. Takes about 30 seconds to pop the lid and remove the seal. I keep mine sealed unless it is flooding, then I unseal it and block off the FTRA.

Be careful with this one though, it's kind of like porting your MAF... You'll gain power but you run risks.
The FRA is okay, but the FTRA has been known to hydrolock engines when driving through puddles in heavy rain.
Now I know it can be blocked for heavy rain, but do you want to be taking your air filter apart all the time, and what happens when you are caught off gaurd. Do a search on LS1.com, a guy destroyed his engine just last week. It wasn't raining, it was a residual puddle in the road but he didn't see it because he was driving behind a truck.
I am not flaming the FTRA, I am just the messenger that wants folks fully informed to make their own decisions so no one need bother flaming me.
Good luck
Dave

Maybe we should have a FAQ avail?
FRA - Free Ram Air mod. Cutting away part of the bottom of the air box to allow more air to come in. See www.installuniversity.com for details.
FTRA - Fast Toys Ram Air. An aftermarket bolt on. Forces more air through system at higher speeds. Problems mentioned above. www.fasttoys.net
