Fuel Pump dying?

Fuel Pump dying?
Today when I got back home from a drive, I noticed a rather loud whining noise coming from the back of my car under the hatch. So I took it for a drive again to see if it kept doing it, and when I blipped the throttle sometimes it felt like the fuel was being cut off. When I got it back home it sounded even louder...any of you guys know what it could be?

I have an LT1 car and just replaced the fuel pump last summer. It took my buddy and I a good weekend to get it done. The GM fuel pump is $400 from a dealer so you might as well get an aftermarket pump that has more flow and costs a lot less. The hardest part about the whole job is getting the tank out from its home. The problem is (at least on my 96) the filler neck it one long piece attached to the tank...there is no rubber to help the tube flex. Good luck with the project

Re: Fuel Pump dying?
I put in a walbro pump, 130. Not that crazy about it. It takes a while to start the car if I don't prime it a few times with the key. I have a little loss of power, I think it's fuel pump related. It just started doing this, and the pump has no warranty... 60 days I think, but that's over..
The whining... Sounds like the filter is getting clogged somehow. That's what would make it whine. Definitely do the trap door. If you cut a trap door you're looking at a 1 hour job. Tops. Even for a first timer. It's so easy once you have access to everything on top of the tank.

Others say removing the gas tank is not that difficult just time consuming. Also that you would need to clean the tank so that would mean taking the tank out. Cleaning the tank meaing just add gasoline and pour it out of the tank, to take out any debris in the tank.
Thanks for the walbro pump 130 info, loseing horsepower is something that is not got for the camaro.

Dropping the tank isn't all that hard. If it's empty it'll be easier. Just depends on how much time you want to spend. Removing the rear end... Exhaust maybe? Not sure about that. Tools, time, and a garage to do it in. That's all it takes. Either way is fine. I am happy I did the trap door, or I'd probably be pulling that tank again to replace this dud Walbro sold me.
