General Questions about a Transam

Heres the deal... I recently sold my 1996 Camaro SS Lt1, Im looking into a newer transam ls1, the lt1 just didnt have enough snap for me. I realize that camaros and transam are rather similar. What Im wondering is what differences they do have, wheather it may be suspension or performance. Im looking to spend around $8000 for something nice and reliable. Figure thats a fair price means its mid November. Im open to any information or suggestions, also Im semi-newer to this site and havent quite figured out yet how everything works. If Im search for cars for sale on here, can i narrow my search to cars for sale locally in my area (Im north of Pittsburgh PA). Also what common problems have been noticed in TAs Im thinking the year 2000. Thank you.

The only difference between any LS1 car for 2000 is basically looks. They all have the same motor/drivetrain. The SSs and WS6s have different hoods and 17'' wheels.

The two F-bodies (Chevy and Pontiac) have been similar for decades besides looks.

Im having a hard time locating a TA locally, besides craigslist, ebay, autotrader & Vehix, can anyone recommend some other good sites that post cars for sale locally? On this site under cars for sale, is there any way to narrow the search to locals or is it just world wide in one cateogory? Also, a friend of mine had said that TAs have some better suspension components than camaros, is that true or is the suspension the same as well? Thank you

does this site or the ls1tech have a local listing for cars or you just have to look through the different places theyre located? Im hoping to find a car locally so I can go and take a look at it in person. I signed up on ls1tech last night, but am unable to acess most of the specs they have: I cant post new threads. Im not sure why though. Also what are the stock specs for a 2000 transam 6-spd, 0-60, 1/4 mile?

Off the top of my head, I think it was something like 5.2 seconds 0-60 and mid 13s 1/4.

I'll go across country if I find a car I like enough to save thousands of dollars. The key is pictures and communication with the seller.

Im working with 8k cash right now, which narrows alot down. Im going to look at a 2000 TA tomarrow with 79k miles, seems to be taken care of, but in the same aspect I'm hoping it doesnt have a huge damper on performance. Also a buddy of mine stopped over tonight, he has an 02 Ws6, I noticed red-line was around 6000rpm but was told the engine is capable stock of 6500 or higher, is that an accurate statement? I guess my two main concerns are performance and handling. Hoping to get any advise and experiences as i can before making a big decision. I had a 96 camaro ss lt1, and it just didnt have enough power for my liking i guess.

Wrong. As I said above, they are the same cars with a different look.

8k cash doesn't narrow down much. Take a look at LS1Tech.com's For Sale section and travel if you like the car and it's a good deal.. like I said before.. lots of pics and communication with the seller is key.

Yeah, depending on how you mod it, the stock motor can turn upwards of 6500-6800 rpm.

I made an account for ls1tech.com over the weekend, but for some reason I am unable to post threads or look at anything on the site. Do you guys suggest any other sites for local car listings?

I bought my 99 Camaro three years ago for less than you are spending. You should be able to get something nice, especially this time of year. I would look for a 2001 or 2002, though, since you get a better intake. I found mine in Autotrader at a little hole-in-the-wall used car lot.

The thing is about the ls1tech cars is that they are mostly going to be modded. I would stick with autotrader and local dealers (one might find you something at auction). You should look for something relatively unmolested, though. They are still out there.

As it stands now, I'm purchasing a 2000 T/A 6 spd on Tuesday, Has an SLP exhaust system & short throw shifter. I've been doing some research online about the quarter mile specs and such. Its stating an 00 TA will do the 1/4 mile in 13.9 but I'm here from friends theyre stock TA ran 13.0 & 13.2, does anyone have a similar story? Although Im a Camaro fan, from what I'm seeing, the TAs do come out ahead of the camaro with performance & handeling. Just wanting to hear other peoples experiences and ideas.
