Make sure it's got what you want first and foremost in terms of options. I wouldn't think an offer or purchase price of ~$15,000 for a 98 SS in good condition with average miles (12,000/year -> ~60k) would be unreasonable. And you can always go Z28 unless you've got your heart set on the SS hood and some other minor differences. Whatever you do, make sure you get it inspected by a reputable mechanic before you buy. $70 for an inspection might save you $3000 in repair troubles down the line.

Nothing goes bad Hehehe .. only serious problem I've encountered so far is a bad clutch that wasn't GM manufactured .. it was a racing clutch I had installed that didn't quite work out. I'm not sure if this is an issue with current models, but leaking t-tops (i don't have t-tops) would definitely be something to look out for. Also, some people notice a slight lean to the passenger side while no one is sitting in the car .. which as far as I know comes from launches during drag racing.

Without drag radials or insane amounts of hp, or large shots on nitrous, the tranny's will go for quite a while.

You'll hear about different issues from different people, but for the most part, these are reliable cars.

I haven't had any problems with my car. As long as you take car of it, it should remain trouble-free.

My T-Tops don't leak or whistle. Just make sure that when you're putting them back in, that they're in there correctly and are very snug, and make sure they're locked too. When the T-Tops are off, don't put them any other place except for the holders in your trunk.

My 98's been fine; absolutely no running problems since I bought it.

Always look for the tell tale signs of an accident--paint overspray, paint mismatches, missing decals or emblems, hatch leaks, radically uneven tire wear.

The M6 trannys are bulletproof--don't know about the A4; rear axles are weak, but call SLP--you may have an Auburn carrier like I have, which is rated for slicks. Engine is great. Most people complain, if they complain about anything, about wind noise, rattles, and general fit and finish. Get a STB and subframe connectors--will help with rigidity, and fewer rattles, better handling.
