Guages reset???

The other day I went to start up my car and turned the key to on. My needles pulled a corvette move on me and went all the way to the right and then back to the left. My milage was then reset. Why does it do that. Thanks in advance.

There's a TSB about your problem, you either have a weak battery or a bad cluster.

I can't say for sure but the manuactures TBS # might be 990849009, the problem seems to happen more often once the weather becomes colder outside. If you can't get it fixed under some kind of warranty package I'd just leave it alone.

Yea, tell me about it. Since I bought my 99Z, my guages have reset themselves 9 times. 4 just today alone. The dealership can't get it to do it for them, and their answer is, "We can't diagnose the problem if it doesn't do it for us." I've heard that this is normal to do it every once in a while, but not 4 times in one day. I'm gonna bring it back to the dealership. If they fix it, I'll let you know what they said the problem was.

I heard the culprit of several people's similar problem was due to a weak battery. Possibly that's the cause for your experiences. My speedo gauge on my '99 SS does the "corvette" sweep too..however that's how it was re-programmed to do.

Thanks for the help. Now that i think about it it could be the battery. it happens only when i run my sound system after the car is off. Now it makes sense. Sorry for the trouble. I think I will ask for a optima battery for christmas. Thanks Mario
