EEEEEHHHHHHH you're from Cali. Yep you need to check on the http://web.camaross.com/forums/forum...?s=&forumid=37 forum. Maybe somebody from Cali will answer your ? in here though. There might be some available that are carb approved but I'm not sure.

You got it. I've been down this road myself.

Long tubes move the cats. That is a no, no, for CARB smog testing. If the smog test technician doesn't see a CARB sticker on your headers you won't pass.

Some people will tell you to find the "cooperating" smog shop. Personnally I would rather my car be legit.

JBA shorty headers are CARB certified, well made, and expensive. Their gains are minimal. Horsepower gains are about the same as a cat-back. I haven't heard much about the torque gains with the JBA shorties, or on any shorties for that matter.

With the exception of some CARB cert SC systems, after market CARB legal parts are few, produce minimal gains and are expensive.

If hp is the only goal, LTs with no cats are best (15-20 rwhp). Then LTs with cats (12-15 rwhp). Shorties are a last resort (5-7 rwhp, even less on a 00-02 car). Those are real ballpark #'s because some people seem to get exceptional #'s at times.

But if you are not allowed to relocate your cats, then shorties are your only option. I don't see much point in them though for the gains. Some people are happy with them for the better sound and looks though.

Maybee convertibles are slower but not slow. we buy convertibles for a reason and one of them may not be for racing. ...... got to love the look and the purpose of the rag top.

cheers

As long as you pass the sniffer you should be fine. Just try and find a smog shop that will look the other way for the visual.

Longtubes seem to be the way to go. They offer awesome Power gains, and an awesome Sound.

I have a question though, will Hooker LT's give you less ground clearance? For example: If I just barely dont scrap going down my driveway, should I expect to with LT's? I thought this was a problem, but even with all this talk about LT's, ground clearance doesnt seem to come up that much.

Thanks!

Hookers are good for clearance, but with any LTs, you will likely lose and inch of clearance, or slightly more. I hope you are only hitting with your cross brace currently?
