header install w/ Y pipe??

hey guys i was wondering if i could just buy a set of hooker headers(coated) and a gmmg cat-back exhaust system and have everything weld together rather easily and still have all my stock cat's?

Or.... do i HAVE to get a Y pipe to make everything fit correctly, and also a Y-pipe with cat's because the headers will eliminate them......

Also do u guys this combo of hooker and GMMG sound good?

sometimes you need some alterations on the y to do that. almost definate with lt's. a good muffler shop should have much of a problem, maybe even make up a custom y. imo id spend the extra $180 for the high flow cats unless you are going to gut the stock ones.

Re: header install w/ Y pipe??

I just recently installed headers and hi-flow catted y-pipe with the hooker catback and it wasn't too hard of a job.The y-pipe I bought was a Texas speed catted y-pipe and it fit great with no problems, the only issue I had with the whole job was I had to trim about 4 inches off the head pipe of the catback and have it expanded to fit the y-pipe.In my opinion for $325 , a catted y-pipe that fits perfect and flows way better than any stock converter is a no-brainer, just my 2 cents!

I'll chime in a nd piggyback the question. I just brought my 98 Conv. home and the previous owner installed LTs without the Cats. To get the car inspected in Maryland I'm gonna have to make it compliant. Can I get away with just a reworked Y-pipe?

Re: header install w/ Y pipe??

I don't see why not, as long as you have all your emissions equipment and your car passes the sniffer test, you should be good to go!The catted y-pipe from texas speed is a nice set-up,the converters are real small compared to the factory units but they are not legal in california, just so you know ahead of time.If you buy it, pre assemble it on the floor to make sure everything fits together before crawling under your car and finding out something is not quite right with the fitment of the pipes. When I installed mine I used a little wd-40 on the joints and it worked great!I hope this helps you.

Thats the set-up I bought,it's a great deal in my opinion and these headers fit VERY good,I didn't have to remove anything other than the old exhaust to get them in.
