Headers

Looking to get headers. Will they make the car louder? I think am going to put on hi-flo cats so i dont have that raspy sound.

Anyone have any suggestions for headers. Looking for something coated, and a easier install...but i dont want to sacrifice performance.

Also, how loud is the Loudmouth 3. is it still raspy?

Thanks,
Justin

Re: Headers

There is no such thing as an easy install in the f-body engine bay.

First question.. Do you have to pass emissions?

Re: Headers

headers alone don't make a significant increase in noise...removal of the cats does.

good coated headers are flowtechs, pacesetter, hooker or Jet-hots

all installs are gonna be about the same.

check out my install guide...it's pretty informative

Hey Justin,

Where are you located in NJ? I have SLP's L/T's w/ Random tech cats, & Loudmouth...you can see/hear it in person if you're not too far away.

Re: Headers

Spend the extra money and get stainless steel. You wont be sorry.

1 3/4" are needed for stock cubes and 1 7/8" for 383 or larger. QTP and KOOKS are great headers.

Re: Headers

Get what you really want the first time and don't "settle" for something as you won't want to do the install again. You know, do it right he first time . . .

KOOKS are tough to beat if you have the green stamps.

Re: Headers

I love my 230 dollar uncoated flowtechs, without cats and stock WS6 exhaust I noticed almost no difference in sound-it just sounded a little more deep or hollow, but its hard to tell. Now when I open the cutout-its very loud and very raspy. I wouldn't get a loudmouth only because its very very freeflowing and will drone you to death, those exhausts are pretty darn loud-unless thats what yur looking for. I had loud and it got old real fast when I couldn't hear my stereo well, unless it was up all the way-and I'm not talking about the stock one-I had a nice system with sub.

Re: Headers

The SLPs have a nice coating and price, but they hang way too low. But I recommend their high flow cats, and if not them try random technology.

Re: Headers

Yes, the SLP L/T's do hang low, so lowering the SS is "out" I've had them on the SS for over 2 years now, and they look as good as the day they were installed. And the 'Random Tech' cats have worked flawlessly for me.

Also, a little "FYI"; If you install headers, upgrade your plug wires as well

Prior to getting headers, etc., installed on my SS, my brother had the same set up on his Firehawk. He kept fouling plugs, and it was attributed to arching from burnt plug wires.

I upgraded my wires at installation, and my brother changed his as well, and there weren't any fouled plugs for him after the upgrade.
