Heads and Cam - DONE! (vid) <3 Kraest

Hey yo,

Finally got the car back up and running. Gotta give mad props to Kraest for giving me the hot setup. I'm REALLY happy so far with what I got, looking forward to hitting the dyno next week and getting fully tuned.

The setup:

Cam: FMS F-13
Heads: Patriot Performance GM LS6 Style Stage II Head Assy (2.02/1.57/59cc)
Headers: Pacesetter offroad Jet Hot coated Long Tubes w. Y-Pipe
Lifters: GM LS7
Pushrods: Comp Cams Chrome Moly
Oil Pump: Melling Peformance (296)
Timing Chain: GM LS2
Tune: Speed Inc. Dyno Tune coming next week!
Exhaust: Magnaflow Cat-back
Lid: Whisper
Clutch and Flywheel: GM LS7

Idle Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8menXQqgBCc

For the full mod list and pics of pulling the motor and stuff, u can check out my cardomain: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2402939

Car runs good so far, minus a few things I'm hoping the dyno will sort out.

You have some very loud valvetrain chatter, unfortunately those LS7 lifters aren't a direct swap from the LS1....Did you adjust pre-load? Did you measure for correct pushrods? Overall car sounds pretty good, nice job.

Well of course they fit but the ls7 lifters plunger is .050 higher than the ls1 lifter, do a quick search and you'll see what i'm talking about. Many people have been making the mistake (including me) of thinking it's a direct swap without any adjustments. With the LS7 lifters you'll need to measure for the correct pushrod length because factory length will no longer work, that's why some people have some very loud valvetrain chatter after a swap.

No they aren't. Just measured 2 sets before install in a twin turbo build and a stock rebuild and the LS7 lifter is now the factory replacement lifter and they are the same plunger height.

Well GM must have changed them very recently because they were never the same size.

LS7 on the left and LS1 on the right.
In the sets I just installed I used a micrometer and measured from the bottom of the pushrod cup to the bottom of the roller where it hits the cam and they were the same.
The change might have come when GM made the LS7 lifters the stock replacement lifters and superceded the part number. The origional ''stock'' LS1 lifter is no longer made or available.
