Help for a newbie?

Hi all,

I just bought a 1998 camaro from a family member--WHAT A CAR! It's a beautiful red Z-28 (5.7L, 6 speed), but I don't know how to tell if it's an SS, and frankly, my sister didn't either (the seller). Can someone tell me how to do this? I'd love to drop a pic in here, but don't know how!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
H. Scott

Re: Help for a newbie?

It would have SS badges and Cowl induction hood. Its pretty obvious. If it says Z28 on the sides and back. Its not a SS.

Re: Help for a newbie?

SS would have a scoop on the hood and a raised spoiler in the back. those are the EASIEST visual clues.

Okee dokee...thanks. Just for giggles (sorry, I'm a computer guy, NOT a car guy): What's a "cowl induction hood?"

cowl induction is a raised center portion of the hood which an SS DOES NOT have it has a ram air hood which you'll see a scoop that allows air to flow in through the center of the hood

Re: Help for a newbie?

Wow, thanks a lot folks; you're great.

My car is NOT an SS then. It does have a raised rear spoiler, as well as the ground effects schtuff (making it look closer to the ground). I presume this is what I saw elsewhere called the "Sports Appearance Package." No holes in the hood whatsoever though.

Sure drives like a dream! What WAS I thinking driving Honda's all these years???

Thanks again,
H. Scott
