That's a good enough answer for me.. But just for the record, I thought the new Accel filters were blue?? Anyhow, I'm thinking Holley Powershot even though I don't know where to get the cleaning materials. I just don't know enough about them, ya know? Who knows... Anyways, thanks for the brainstorm guys.

June 2002 of Hot Rod Tested all of the Reusable/Oil Bath filters against a Purolator Plus Paper filter. they all made the same power.

Recent oil analyses done by other F-Body message board members has shown higher Silicon level (i.e. Sand) in cars equipped with oil bath Air filters.

K&N's owns Web site Says the worst Paper filter they tested "only" had an efficiency of 93%. I've never used the worst of anything on my car.

The only thing I see to justify the added cost of these filters is possibly longevity. you're supposed to replace a K&N after 25 washings. so that could be 5 years or more, but I personally wouldn't trade that for. maybe 1hp and dirtier oil.

Just my oppinion,

Question

Go with personal preference. Both filters flow about 2,000 cfm. Your car only sucks in what...800 cfm? It doesn;t matter which flows more, you will never meet and certainly not exceed the limit of the filter.

I have been using K&N for years, bu I kinda like the Holley, though.

Those filters actually fit those cars, hence the reason there is no foam gasket.

The K&N filter for our car was not designed for our car. It just happened to fit inside the airbox. So, with the addition of a cheap foam gasket, it was able to fit our box and seal against the lid.

Holley was designed to fit our airbox and seal against the lid. Compare them side by side and you will see that the Holley is thicker on the black rubber part. That's so it seals against the lid.

As for the rest of your comments .... I deleted them from my quote. I saw no sense in repeating it.

paper vs oil-cotton will flow the same when both are clean.. supposidly oil-cotton flows better when dirty.

Also, I've read from an outside source, during the transient response, when you suddenly slam on the gas, suddenly opening the throttle, oil-cotton's flow rates jump up faster than paper.

Another point to consider is that the Holley oil is MAF sensor friendly (supposedly) where teh K&N has been known to foul them. its no big deal though, you jsut have to clean the MAF

psychocabbage,
Cool with me too brother. We are all F-bod (and some vette) people here.
Question for all on the cleaning of the MAF sensor, I tried to find the post, what is the "cleaner" from RadioShack that you should use?
Thanks,
Tuc

Searching, i foudn this tidbit.. seems many people were recommending the use of a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol.. but then I found this:
Originally posted by atljar:
Finally, i used electronics parts cleaner from NAPA to clean the wires. Safer to use b/c will clean the wires without having to rub with q-tip, which as stated before, can break the little wires costing you a pretty penny to replace.
Seems that many suggest non contact, non residue electrical parts cleaner.. If I were to do it, I would go that route. I wouldnt want to risk the breakage.
