how accurate is the gas guage?

The Gas Gauge's are accurate on all year Fbody's. Its the gas tank on the 98's and lower years that is the problem. They have a V type shape or something like that and is why it made the gauge read the way it does. After a 1/4 tank or so the gauge would drop fast. That is because of the shape of the gas tank.

Gas tanks are not a perfect shape. The top half will hold more than the bottom half. I cannot think of ANY car that is not like this. The first half of your gas gauge will go by slow, then it will drop faster and faster below 1/2.
