how much $ for cam install?

I am in the process of acquiring a 224 cam for my SS. About how much $ should it cost me? I just wanna drop the car off and pick it up. This is assuming that from what i've heard about tlhis being a simple job is true, it shouldn't cost much. (pulling fans and radiator and sliding old cam out)

thanks

Its around $400 just for the install at a shop here. You'll also need hardened push rods, some stronger springs, and a tune.

Cam and springs and no hardened pushrods? You're asking for a bent pr.

You could also ask around in the local sections and see if there is a private installer. I know there are around here and they're about $250 cheaper.

Look in my sig.

Usually, 400+ rwhp for a decent sized cam with supporting mods (LS6 intake, ported TB, LT headers, all bolt-ons, etc)

That's 100% incorrect.

You would also need to upgrade the valvesprings, pushrods, as well as the oil pump (port the old one), and a new gasket kit, so you'd need to include labor on that as well....also possibly new retainers, new seats and valve stem seals while you're playing with the heads.

You should get a package that includes everything you need for a cam upgrade....just buying the camshaft alone isn't going to work.

After all is said and done, you can expect around $500 or so labor.

Futral Motorsports has a package that includes the whole shebang, minus the camshaft for $399.

Parts for under $1000 (I caught Futral Motorsports during a special, so the parts were $725 for the entire cam package)... Labor varies place to place.

Re: how much $ for cam install?

Buy used.

So far I picked up a cam that has never been ran for $80 (GTP420) and some hardened Trickflow pushrods again, never ran for $60.

Springs are where I'll spend most of the cash for the cam change. $250 for patriot golds.

Tune is taken care of, I'll get an LS2 chain ($35), probably not messing with the oil pump since many more radical engines around here are still running the stocker w/out a prob and a local guy will install cheap.

All said and done, it'll be cost me ~$600. Less if I DIY.

Yep. Like I said, you'll probably need a gasket set and that's all. Futral Motorsports is a fierce competitor in the LS1 world and holds the fastest 346 record at 9.95@137 mph through a pro-shifted 6-speed and was the first to break into the 9s on stock displacement. My friends and I do all of our business with them, despite the fact that other vendors are closer. Some of their more recent buildups include a 507rwhp 346 LS1 through a TH400 and a 950+ rwhp GT-55 Turbo 408ci LS1 that was spinning the tires on the dyno. Their line of cams are the best on the market for power and driveability.

They are the real deal.

Looks and sounds amazing. The turbo setup runs a little low, so don't even think about lowering that car.
