how much $ for cam install?
I am in the process of acquiring a 224 cam for my SS. About how much $ should it cost me? I just wanna drop the car off and pick it up. This is assuming that from what i've heard about tlhis being a simple job is true, it shouldn't cost much. (pulling fans and radiator and sliding old cam out)
thanks

Cam and springs and no hardened pushrods? You're asking for a bent pr.
You could also ask around in the local sections and see if there is a private installer. I know there are around here and they're about $250 cheaper.

Usually, 400+ rwhp for a decent sized cam with supporting mods (LS6 intake, ported TB, LT headers, all bolt-ons, etc)

You would also need to upgrade the valvesprings, pushrods, as well as the oil pump (port the old one), and a new gasket kit, so you'd need to include labor on that as well....also possibly new retainers, new seats and valve stem seals while you're playing with the heads.
You should get a package that includes everything you need for a cam upgrade....just buying the camshaft alone isn't going to work.
After all is said and done, you can expect around $500 or so labor.
Futral Motorsports has a package that includes the whole shebang, minus the camshaft for $399.

Buy used.
So far I picked up a cam that has never been ran for $80 (GTP420) and some hardened Trickflow pushrods again, never ran for $60.
Springs are where I'll spend most of the cash for the cam change. $250 for patriot golds.
Tune is taken care of, I'll get an LS2 chain ($35), probably not messing with the oil pump since many more radical engines around here are still running the stocker w/out a prob and a local guy will install cheap.
All said and done, it'll be cost me ~$600. Less if I DIY.
