How much more would you pay for an ls1 ss?
I personally love the look of the ls1 ss, i've seen deals hear and there on ones with slightly over 100k. don't want to break the bank as a fairly mint z28 you can get for anywhere from 6.5 to 7.5k but how much more would you pay for an ss vs a z28. 1000, 2000? Year range is 98-00. I would only buy a m6 so keep that in mind, i know they usually go for a bit more.

i'm not sure how much more i'd pay...
considering most of the SS options would still need to be upgraded with performance in mind. only nice thing would be the spoiler and wider rims from the factory.
but the exhaust, ram air, suspension...would all be ditched for better aftermarket anyway...so the added cost of the car would be somewhat of a waste.

SS's didn't necessarily come with Bilsteins. That was an option.
BLKLT1,
How much more is finding a GM SS hood (because aftermarket SS hoods tend to have fitment issues) and spoiler and having it painted to match a Z28 worth to you?
Personally, if I had a Z28, I'd go with a SLP UltraZ hood and use vintage Z/28 badging instead of doing an SS clone.

Hummmm, the hood is prob atleast 500+ with shipping, the spoiler maybe 200-250. (Assuming new) Paint maybe 350 total. But you gotta count the wheels, the ss wheels are the 17x9 vs the stock 5 star 16x8. If you count that your in atleast another 1000 with good tires (bought from ebay) Didn't the ss have alittle more then the hood, spoiler and wheels, shocks option, sway bars?

got my 98 blk SS with 98k on it for 5500 last year. Excellent shape cept for some door dings in the passenger rear qtr. This car felt tighter than the 2000 TA 6 spd that I just sold for 16k with 55k miles on it. The 6 spd cars tear themselves up a lot faster than the autos do.

not really...i think some had the optional upgraded springs. and i think in 02 you could get the 345hp package which was basically a lid and maybe a little better muffler.
oh and some came with the hurst shifter.
anyway...i think i'd rather have a modified Z28 than a cloned SS....although the spoiler is a sweet looking piece

For instance: All 98 SSs came with the low level bilstiens with 2 other higher suspension levels optional. On the later cars any Bilstiens were optional. On the later cars you could get a hp upgrade package which included a lid and filter that wasn't available on the early cars.
On an older high mileage car all of the suspension stuff is moot as it will all have to be replaced to get the handling back on a par with a new car. And the little performance up grades can be done for very little money.
When it's all said and done an SS is the hood, spoiler and the lineage, ie it's vin. will tell that it's a real McCoy.

A car is only worth what buyers are willing to pay for it and sellers are willing to accept. I'd say, start with the KBB private party value. Mods don't really count. The seller is lucky to see between $0.25~$0.40 for every $1.00 invested in aftermarket parts (if anything extra at all). Also keep in mind, there are NO excellent condition cars with 100K miles on them. Less than 5% of the cars on the road can be considered a part of KBB's excellent condition pricing.
My advice is, look at the fair and good KBB values and determine where the car fits. If the car is bone stock, make a reasonable offer about 10~15% below the fair/good value you determined to allow a little room for negotiation. But, make sure you clearly define to yourself what is your ceiling (the most you're willing to spend). If they want to sell it bad enough, they will. If not, oh well and move on.
If it's modded, figure out the rough investment for the parts only and divide by 4. Add that onto the previously determined value and consider that your best offer, but start with the original number and work up to it. Who knows, you might get a slightly better deal that way. That's just my opinion on how these cars should be priced.
BTW, I got my '01 SS (~32K mi.) with a professionally installed/tuned H/C package and a few other goodies for under $18K. The right car for you is out there...you just have to find it.
