Post I have been gone a while...this has probably been beat to death

I have been gone a while but have a question concerning the LS1. What are the best headers. I know a lot of guys say FLP and SLP long tubes. I was also wondering what are the best long tubes that don't cost 1,000$ like those two do. I have also talked to some guys that like Hooker. Any comments will be helpful. I know you guys have probably already seen this thread a million times but like I said I have been gone and could really use the insight. By the way I used to like the LT1, but I LOVE the LS1!!!. It is a monster. Thanks again.

Everyone I have seen with Hookers loves them. They seem by far to have the fewest issues. FLP has the most issues followed by SLP.
I have only ever heard one person complain about his Hookers... he said he didn't like the look of the welds. One out of hundreds of posts on the subject.

Question

Yes but if you ever have to put cats on I believe the FLP's come with the highest flowing cats out there. This is not from personal experience, just something I rember reading.

Hookers are nice but if you want to go street legal it will be about the same as FLP's. 400=hookers, about 400=random tech cats, another 100 for y pipe with the headers attached. But then with flps, it is all bolt on and stainless steal, i think the only problems i know of with the FLP's is the banging which can be fixed. But FLP's are supposed to be the easiest to install

Hookers are a direct bolt on.
FLPs...stainless steal...
No, they're regular steel, you have them confused with SLP.
i think the only problems i know of with the FLP's is the banging which can be fixed.
!!!
What!?! Pay $1300 for headers that are going to bang around under the car? Why should you have to fix it. And don't give me that "they fixed the problem", I will hook you up with a guy who just bought a set last week and has banging. He called them and they said "bend them down with a crowbar". WTF!?!
This is not the only problem either...
I have seen multiple posts of folks with flaking, rusting, banging, pipes hitting the oil drain plug... there are one or two more, but I can't recall right now.
Be informed
Dave

Thanks guys. I think that for now the Hooker LTs will do fine. I just can't see spending 1,000 dollars on headers. By the way, SLP claims some serious power numbers from their headers. Anyone know about how much to expect out of the Hooker Lts?

No long tube headers are street legal. they move the location of the cats, and thats illegal

I paid $850 shipped for mine (Jet-Hot coated LT, uncoated ORY pipe, pair of O2 simms). Everything is in the kit, I did mine in my driveway by myself. These are the easiest headers to install. I had to remove only the oil diverter valve (above the oil filter) and the steering linkage. A friend of mine had SLP LTs with Randon Techs (supplied by SLP) installed, and the installer had to remove his motor/tranny mounts and pry the engine over to one side to fit the passenger side. PITA!

No, as I said, any movement of the cats is illegal. However lots of people do get away with it. It depends on how the smog stuff is done in your area
