i just bought a 98 z!

i was saving some dough for a z thought id get an lt1 bucked somehow lucked into a 98 z with 50000 miles every freaking option and of course the ls1 for 11,500 bucks! holy crap! i plucked a 6000 buck downpayment on it $180 car payments im the luckiest guy on earth. anyway i never paid attention to the ls1 i thought id never afford one so i know they have to be way better than the lt1 reliabilty wise but whats the scoop on them? ill be doing the free ram air mod and a cat back but the car is cherry and i dont want to screw with it anything or advice you guys can give me on it would be greatly appreciated thanks

Sweet! Sounds like a nice ride. I just got my 2000 Z a few days ago, so I'm on cloud 9 too. I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

I bought my 01 SS, 9 months ago and still feel lucky to have it. It is a very reliable car and quick. Whenever you save extra money people on the board will help you spend it so good luck

nice grab

get a nice lid to compliment the exhaust. those two things alone will make a solid 20hp gain.

is it an auto or m6? cause if it's an m6, get a nice shifter or at least a short stick (have one for sale if interested) to make everyday driving more enjoyable.

also look into some simple suspension mods to make the daily driving more fun. subframe connectors are a good idea as are sway bars for a significantly more stable and solid ride.

just cruise around the forum for a while you'll learn quickly. the general ideas are the same, just slightly different platform.

Cool

Congrats on your purchase. Price is definetely on the high side for a 98, but as long as you are happy, that's all that matters.

LS1's are very reliable. One major thing is that you don't have the optispark to hassle with. The engine overall is so much different anyway, that it is no use to compare it to the LT1 too much.

Enjoy your ride and read a lot of the threads and use the search. Most of your newbie LS1 questions have most likely been already answered.

Congrats on your good luck. The LS1 engine is extremely reliable and can make lots of horsepower very cheaply. Welcome to the club.......

Congrats.

HOPEFULLY, I am going to get a 99 Z here in a couple days. It will be my second LS1 and this time its an M6, thank god. Its only $12,000 with 30k miles on it and every option a Z has.
