ignition lock cylinder

I got stuck in huntington station today for over 2 hours because the ignition switch in my car seems to be pretty messed up. this occured on tuesday and with luck i got it started after screwing with it a bit. but today it just wouldn't start, even after an hour of toying with it. i tried rocking the steering wheel and turning the key in every vertical position the steering wheel can be adjusted. so i had to have it towed back to my house for $280.
a friend is working on getting the part to me on monday and i'm going to take apart the steering wheel and replace the lock. anyone ever experience this problem?

Re: ignition lock cylinder

Hello, hammerdown;

East Ender (Aquebogue) here. A similiar thing happened to my wife's '00 Malibu - the security light was on too. After finally starting it, drove the car to our family mechanic without turning it off. He had a tool that could tap into the BCM, deleted the signal (if that is the correct term), and it hasn't been a problem in over 3 months. Warned me that if it happened again, the lock would have to be replaced. Seems you are on the right track, at least in my humble opinion.

Good luck on your repair.

Steve
