IMPORTANT: 5.3l LS1?

Ok, I have been looking around for a LS1 to swap into my S-10, I got lucky and a guy said he had a 5.3l out of a sierra truck with only 7000 miles on it for $1200, is the 5.3l able to have LS1 parts bolted onto the block itself? can I swap the manifold for a conventional manifold without changing the vortech heads? I really need to know, its an aluminum block with aluminum heads, and will go quick, this is my big chance engine wise, so will a 5.3l bolt up with a 5.7l LS1 engine parts? or is there a difference?

alot of ls1 owners will swap 5.3l heads to their 5.7l for an easy power increase

but as for teh other way around i am not sure

Re: IMPORTANT: 5.3l LS1?

my question is, would it be a pretty much accurate statement to say that is an LS1, and then buy it and mod it as such? If it is swappable, and I can put the LS1 parts that I have on it(my dad redid his whole engine) then I would be around 500 rear horsepower, I just got the for 9" rear end built up, and am having the worlds strongest automatic trans built for it(www.rosslertrans.com) so it will be a mean street machiene, but I want to be safe and assured that I will be able to bolt parts to it that I could with a regular LS1, such as swap parts and other things

Don't count on it. Not from 5.3 liters, or even 5.7.

not even once I get the cam, ported heads, I am swapping my supercharger over with a 9lb boost pully, and doing a few minor things around like porting and polishing the throttle body, fuel injectors, spark plugs, and such, even with all that, you still dont think I could get it to 500 rwhp?

Re: IMPORTANT: 5.3l LS1?

Sorry, a Powerdyne on a 5.3 isn't going to get you 500 rwhp. More like 400 rwhp if it's tuned right. Powerdynes and 5.3's are both not know for making tons of power.

Re: IMPORTANT: 5.3l LS1?

does the vrand of supercharger really have anything to do iwth the power it produces as compared to boost pressure? as long as I am pushing 9lbs then 9lbs is 9lbs, regardless if its a vortech or a powerdyne am I right? its not only the powerdyne thats getting done, the heads are going to be ported and polished accordingly to a decently powerful blower cam, along with headers, and a bullet exhaust system from dynamax, I do believe I will be around 450 with an lsx manifold, most guys are picking up around 25-35 horse at the rear wheels just from the lsx manifolds

Just buy a 6.0L and turbo set up since you have the worlds strongest trans. Or just buy a LS1

hah, and you had the money to do that when you were 16? sorry, anyways I want to get back onto topic, will it work or not? will I be able to install LS1 parts onto the 5.3l block?

9 lbs is not 9 lbs. Powerdyne will produce the least power of all centrifugals due to inefficiency. There's an article in MM&FF where the same motor made 580 - 840 hp all at the same boost level, just different forms of FI.

Just talked to a fellow FI enthusiast about your combo. He predicts 365 rwhp.

Like toneloc says, a 6.0 liter with a turbo will make 1100+ rwhp.

Re: IMPORTANT: 5.3l LS1?

here is question, would you think it a better idea to sell the powerdyne unit when I sell the 4.3l motor, it is a polished unit with only 3000 miles on it, the kit for it is $6000 right now, and do you think it would be a good idea to sell it and buy a different charger? or go all motor? im only 16, and I am on an extremely tight budget, and well, I want to at least be able to hit 12.50's if not better, yet still the question remains, will the 5.3l bolt up with parts of an 5.7l ls1?

Re: IMPORTANT: 5.3l LS1?

I'm not quite sure how many options you just pointed out, but 12.50's isn't too difficult. An 5.7 LS1 with good headers/exhaust will get you there. A 5.3 with ported heads and good cam would do it also. The budget route would be a 350 SBC with Vortec heads and decent cam. "Supercharger" and "tight budget" don't go in the same sentence (err, except this one).

12.50's in an S-10 should only require ~330 rwhp.

Re: IMPORTANT: 5.3l LS1?

well here, how does this sound then, once I have the pieces to install the engine, I am figuring say if I sold my charger unit and went with the 5.3l, lets say I had $3000 to work with for the charger unit and another lets say $750 for the 4.3l I will sell, I know a guy who can port and polish my heads for free, I will have arounf $4000 to work with, what would you do? I kind of still would like to go with a cam and supercharger combo, what would you suggest if I went with this?

why you say no my 4.8L made 303 to the wheels SAE corrected...

if its got an alum block then its more then likely a 5.7 block as all the 4.8,5.3,6.0 are an iron block...the 4.8,5.3 heads are the same

as far as intake the truck intake is really close to being as good as the LS6 intake.. many test have been done do a search on ls1tech.com you will find some good info on it

all the GEN III motors will swap around parts 4.8,5.3,5.7,6.0 but the 8.1 wont swap out

Re: IMPORTANT: 5.3l LS1?

thank you very much, at least someone could answer my question, so if I can swap parts from the LS1 into the 5.3 block then I am happy with that, I just dont see only a 60 rwhp gain from 9lbs from any supercharger, much less one of the highest rated and most reliable
