Re: induction options?

I think you'd be better off posting this in LS1 Tech.

Re: induction options?

All you really need is a lid and maybe a ram air kit like the Super Sucker or FTRA. Above and beyond that, you're just doing engine bay appearance mods. As for the MAF, I say leave it alone. You might be able to flow a little more CFM by porting/descreening or buying an aftermarket piece. But, the amount of headaches that can be found after people have done that suggest not to mess with it. The stocker should be good to about 550~600hp anyways. So, save your money for something like headers or a cam. Just my $0.02.

Re: induction options?

Buy an intake lid from any one you want... and aftermarket intake lid is and aftermarket intake lid...

you can buy the bellows if you want, some people say it is a waste of money, others do not... it adds around .0000001 hp to your car so you can determine if it is a good bang for the buck

the MAF is a waste of money to replace it considering gains are very minimal (less than 5 hp), you may want to just descreen it and call it a day until you get a massive H/C setup. Some will say to descreen it and others wont, just be careful when you do it and it will be all good

For the TB, just have someone port it for you, or port it yourself. It is a waste of money because like a MAF sensor gains are very minimal

As for the intake manifold, if you dont have a 2001-2002 ls1 then you dont have an LS6 intake manifold. SO.... if you dont have that year, that is a good investment which should help out w/ power all across the powerband... i'm sure someone who has actually had experience with this will explain more

SSRA (super sucker ram air) is a sweet ram air for Camaros/Firebirds... it is this little air ducting that runs from the bottom of your Intake Lid and down to right in front of your radiator... at low speeds it acts a just a cold air induction and at high speeds it acts a a ram air.... i think if i recall it is like 13 rwhp at 60 mph....

Last, if you cant afford the SSRA you can do a mod called Free ram air... consists of cutting some stuff under your intake lid, bending some plastic and getting a few hp... look it up on google, they will tell you how to do it

Take it easy and happy modding!!!

Re: induction options?

what he said.

all lids are about equal, only real difference is price and appearance.

the SSRA is a very worthwhile mod, particularly for non ram-air equipped cars. even on the SS since the air inlet path for the SS hood is less than optimal. the intake path on the WS6 cars is much better, and doesn't really need a new ram air.

i wouldn't port the maf, but porting the TB i think is worthwhile, specially since it is something you can do yourself or for very cheap. i calculated it out to an 8% increase in cross sectional area by removing the lip just in front of the tb blade.

check out the bottom of page 2 of my website (in sig) for a pic and explaination.

Re: induction options?

Since yours is a 00 model, an LS6 intake would be on the list also.

I'd do the basic bolt-ons... Lid, Headers, Exhaust, etc, then focus on what else you want to do, such as Cam, heads/cam, nitrous, supercharger, stroker motor, etc.

Also, I'd check out Futral Motorsports. They are about 45 mins away in Walker.
