induction suggestions
What is the best induction I can get for my 99 z28? I was looking into a lid but I like the idea of removing the box like the K&N setup. I was also looking at the Volant air induction that is very similar to the K&N piece. Most guys from what I have read use a lid but has anyone seen gains form the open filter setups like the KN and Volant? Also I'm buying a new MAS, which one? Should I go with a screened or open type?

In theory the conical or oval filters should pull some smoother air and get you some power, but they also look like they will get dirty quicker.. I prefer the near stock look.. I have only a lid that I will run at the track.. other than that, its stock.. paper filter and all..

If money is not an issue and every last HP counts for you, I would say go with the volant or FIPK. But compared to a lid IMHO don't think it is worth the exta money for the Volant or FIPK. I would put the extra money towards something else that will show a lot more gains

Also as for the filter, I would go with the Holley filter, they have a much better fit than the K&N. I have a Holley and it fits 100% perfect, I hear the K&N needs some sealer and some moving around, K&N is not worth it to me

the K&N and Amsoil Filters I used fit perfectly.. no issue whatsoever.. paper filter produced more power.. period.. thats just my test though.. feel free to do your own research.. My results are in sig..

No flame but a dyno test for filters maybe your idea of a good test, but I find it very inconclusive. You can run any car on a dyno x # of times and get x # of different dyno results. It is too close to test.
Anyhow for the original poster, it doesn't matter what filter you go with, they'll all do the same and being within a small deviation of power output. As for the stock filter, for me I would not use it because 1)I may forget to change it every x,xxx miles 2) it doesn't look pretty with my MTI lid 3)it doesn't look too tough against elements.
I went with the Holley because 1)pretty blue color looks nice with my MTI lid 2) fits perfect 3)lifetime warranty, I just have to clean it all the time. 4)It was rumored K&N doesn't fit as well 5)Looks tough against the elements.
Good luck with whatever you do.
and like Psycho said, don't mess with the MAF, especially if you have an A4
