Installed Flowmaster today with LT Headers
I have Hooker long tube headers and a hooker off road y-pipe going into a Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back. I'm installing dual electronic cutouts on the headers next week for when I'm at the track so I'm not worried about the muffler being restrictive.
It sounds mean as hell and in my opinion is totally worth any loss of horsepower over the hooker catback I had on. It sounds 100% better now, it actually sounds like a muscle car. Even with my long tube headers and off-road pipe there's no rasp and no drone from 45-55 in 5th and 55-65 in 6th. With my Hooker cat-back it produced a really nasty raspy tone from 2,000-2,600 rpms that I hated and with the flowmaster it sounds the best from 2-3k.
I wish I had just gone with the flowmaster from the beginning like I was originally going to, it's exactly the sound I was looking for. I'll post clips as soon as I can get ahold of my friend's camera. I'll try to get clips of the dual cutouts when I get them installed next week too (destroyed the microphone on my digital camera recording my open headers the first time ).

Hey man, post a sound clip if you can! I have the American thunder system as well and i was thinking about hooker longtubes. I wanted to know how it sounded before i bought them for my car. I love my flowmaster setup and I am glad you are happy with yours.

Cool.............sounds like you've got a nice system.
I was just wondering, Hooker only lists headers for '98 - '99 LS1 F-bodies. What difference is there to the '00 - '02 LS1's (if any?) or do they actually make headers specifically for the later years? I was considering Hooker LT's for my car next year.
thx

They make headers for the newer LS1s too. You can use the old ones no problem, the only difference is the direction the flange is pointed for the AIR hoses. When you put on long tubes the AIR system is basically useless so most people like myself, remove the AIR system and put block of plates on the flanges.

Oh, okay. What about the EGR? I think '98/'99 had that, but an '02 wouldn't, right? So besides blocking off the flanges where the AIR system hooks up, anything else you need to disable or block off?
Again, thanks for the info.
