Question installing new aluminum DS?

I have an 1le aluminum driveshaft and I am going to install it on saturday. I was wondering if I am going to need to add any tranmission fluid to the tranny after installation? Im going to jack the rear-end up as far as I can go, so gravity forces the fluid towards the front of the tranny, and then pop out the DS out of the tranny, hopefully not loosing too much fluid. I was wondering If I still needed to put some in afterwards?

your car have one of the steel driveshafts i take it? I only ask this because i had a guy tell me that he swaped a 1LE shaft with his stock aluminum shaft because the 1LE was better.. it was quite humorous since its the same driveshaft.

you will not need anything for the swap

Not all, I have a '99 Z28, and it's got a steel DS. Just look under there, if it's all rust lookin and stuff, it's steel. If it's clean it's aluminum.

I seem to remember reading that cars with 2.73 gears have steel driveshafts and cars with 3.23's have aluminum. Is that not correct?

I have a steel driveshaft. I wouldn't mind picking an aluminum one up locally.

BTW, they're a cinch to put in. Just jack the car up enough to get under it, undo the u-joint, pull it out, and reverse for your new one.

They can be a bit of a pain to shove back in there, with the exhuast and torque arm in the way.
I stand corrected....I guess the 2.73's get steel...sorry!

are you talking about an LT1 1LE shaft? those are a larger diameter than an LS1 shaft and a good bit stronger.

For the driveshaft installation, does one reuse the old bolts at the differential, or replace those?

(the 4 bolts I believe holding the rear u joint to the rear end)

Also, is there a torque spec for these bolts?

the 273 cars come with steel shafts, not alum. I got a lingenfelter alum to replace my steel one a while back.
