knocking engine....
uh oh....
well, looks like it's time to upgrade the engine. I haven't done any performance mods but at 61K miles I started hearing a knock. No extended warranty of course since they're a waste of money anyway.
Anyway, since the engine is going to be out to be rebuilt anyway, what suggestions do you guys have? It's been completely stock, I'm thinking of having it set up to be 383, since I have it out, I'll probably put on some new headers. Anyone know of any great deals on anything out there right now for this stuff?
Thanks in advance for all input, I know electronics of a car pretty well, but when it comes to an engine I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm totally ignorant. It's probably a total newbie topic and I'm sorry if it is. I didn't really find what I was looking for in the search.

First off, I would say, "let's not jump the gun" Are you sure that this "knock" is not just the normal tapping heard from the LS1?
Have you done anything that would have caused this knock?

Unfortunately, I'm pretty confident that it's actually the rod I have always had somewhat of a tap or knocking kind of sound which is normal when I turned the car off. This actually sounds about like a powerstroke diesel engine, almost as loud.
As for if I did anything? yeah, probably I got on it on an acceleration ramp but it was almost two quarts low (I was going to have the oil changed later that day).
