Less than 7000 miles and back to the dealer tomorrow
Tomorrow will be the 2nd time my Z28 has gone to the dealership for THE FLAPPIN' REAR END!!!!! It's SO noisy and SO crappy sounding that I'm embarrassed to have anyone ride with me! It pops, clicks, and whines if I'm going above 45MPH Could I be causing the problem? I've never drag raced the car or even popped the clutch. I want to do some suspension mods, but I'm afraid if I do that the dealer will start to blame the problems on them! Any ideas guys 'n' gals? Thanks, sorry about the rant!

Don't quote me on this, and someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I do think there is a way that under warranty, if you're having that many problems with the rearend, you can ask to get it upgraded to a 12-bolt and all you have to pay is the difference in price of the two. Cause our rearends are notorious for being weak and breaking easy.

Hey,
Well I hope you have better luck with the dealership than I'm having right now. I am getting unbelievably nasty horrible service from these people...
A quick run-down of my issues.....I bought my 2002 Z28 2 months ago. I had a rear end issue too. It clunked when I shifted to each gear. Awful sounding. I took it in, and they fixed it reluctantly. The following week, i had a bad bad hesitation and no power when until about 10 minutes into the drive each time it was driven. It jerked, barely ran, and the shifter jumped all the heck over the place. Also it grinds going into 2nd gear.
Well i ened up going to that dealership 4 times and each time they told me it didnt do it when they had it and theres nothing wrong with it. (bastages!) I even took it to a different dealer, same results. Was treated very rudely too!
Anyway, Tuesday of this week i went in raising holy hell and the engine light was on. They finally found the engine issue. Bad fuel injectors. They're working on the tranny right now.
Lemme tell you. When you go, make sure you INSIST to get your problems worked out, otherwise they wont want to do ANYTHING. Good god, I what a horrible experience.

Just a quick ? for everyone out there. My Z28 has a battery eating problem. The car keeps running them down. After sitting for anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks, my battery dies.
After visiting the dealer for the third time, the rep. told me it's not abnormal for the battery on a 2001 Z28 to die after sitting for 4 days!!!!! WTF! You've got to be ----ing kidding me!
Someone, please give me some ammo to take to Chevrolet. I am going to write them. I really want to keep my Z because there's nothing else out there that goes as fast, and looks as good for the price! (plus it's paid for)

Ry, hopefully the dealership can fix it this time. My rear isn't exactly quiet either so I'm gonna eventually take it in. I race the car though so having some issues with the lil' 10 bolt doesn't surprise me but I can understand why you're a little upset. I agree with you about the mods, don't do anything to the car until they fix the rear or they'll most likely try to blame them for your problems.

If it goes dead that fast, there is something up. Do you have any aftermarket electrical equipment at all on the car? ANY? If you do, start with that. If not, talk to the SERVICE MANAGER not the SERVICE WRITER. Service Writers are comissioned sales people and know virtually nothing about cars in most cases. If they don't do something with it. Call Chevrolet and bitch up a storm.

All 4th gen F Bods have a feature that will automatically shut off power to accessories if they are left on more than twenty minutes. You can demonstrate this by leaving the door open for 20 minutes and watching the light go out.
While you are standing there with the service manager waiting the 20 minutes for the light to go out, you can explain to him about how claims with the better business buerea are fought, and how your local news actively supports an investigative reporting staff to report bad business practices such as incompetence, dihonesty, warranty fraud, etc...
That should get their attention. Don't let them BS you.
About the rear end, see above, but substitute rear end noise, for dead battery.
As far as aftermarket suspension mods go, it is the dealerships' responsibilty to prove without a doubt that a suspension mod was the direct cause of a problem with the rear end. Their research is subject to cross examination, as well. Until they do that, they cannot legally deny any warrant claim. That goes for ANY aftermarket product. Unless the aftermarket product itself is faulty, they cannot deny a claim.

I appreciate everyone's sympathetic ear. Right after work today I'll be bringing the car to the dealer. I sure hope I get a Malibu loaner this time instead of a Metro! As for the suspension mods, I can wait. It's winter now anyway, so I don't need a stiffer suspension. Plus, I don't want any complications. It'd be a stretch for them to blame the rear end problems on my current mods. Thanks!

yikes.. I would ask them to get someone local that knows how to setup gears and rearends to take a look at it.. else replace the whole rearend..
and the battery thing.. LMAO.. sorry. I'd LEAVE that dealership and NEVER go back.. You can bring it to any Chevy dealership.. If you can't get any help, call the Chevy support hotline.. they act pretty quickly.. albiet they misunderstood me the first time on my complaint and had to make another round of calls.....

That may bit a bit hard to pull off since GM doesn not make or have a production 12 bolt that will bolt in to our cars
