A little advice on heads.

Hey guys I've decided to go with a H/C package for my Z28. I've decided to go with Patriot Performance Heads.

I was just wanting to know which ones to go with?? I plan on keeping this a N/A car as I feel after the H/C package and some Headers I should be fine.

My question is which ones?? Stage 2 5.3L, Stage 2 5.7 L, or the Stage 2 LS6/LQ9 heads.

What are the pros/cons of each.

thanks.

Depends on the money you want to spend. Personally, I'm going Stg II LS6 heads. They're pretty damn good on the price, and obviously they'll be better than the others. You just have to figure out a budget. Going fast is all about the Benjamins

I went with the stage II LS6 heads as well. Like RS Dragster said it's all about how many "ducks" you got in your pond To be honest i think you will be very happy with any of these heads!

Well as far as the $$ goes I believe you should get what you want Plus I was looking at the package at texas-speed with a custom TSP cam, hardened pushrods, and roller chain for like $2300 or so??

So the Stage 2 LS6 heads are the big dogs then??? I've heard people liking the 5.3 cause it raises compression. What does the LS6 do as far as that??? Does anyone know??

Thanks for input.

Not to sure on the 5.3's CR but on the LS6 style with 59cc my CR is 11.1.1-11.2.1. I hope this helps.

Which brings up another good point: Texas Speed doesn't just mill their heads like everyone else to increase compression. I'm not sure what exacty it's called, but what they do is some welding in places to where it still bumps compression, but you won't have problems with valves hitting the pistons.

I opted for the S2 LS1 heads.

However, there were 2 deciding factors ...

Price: I have a '98 and they are on sale right for $995 a set for perimeter bolt heads

Future: I road race and need a good power, but for extended periods of time. A huge cam is just not the ticket for my needs, so there was no need to go with monster heads.

Also, once you get into the 11s on compression, tuning becomes a major issue if you chose to daily drive it. Cold start, return to idle, low vacum, fuel octane, detonation issues could all make a BIG cam a royal PITA ...

Well i wasn't going to go with a monster cam. Just an agressive street cam.

What difference does the combustion chamber size make?? They have 2 different ones for the same LS6 heads.

Also whats the stock compression on our cars??

Thanks

Stock compression is around 10.2:1. The combustion chamber sizes are 59 cc, I wasn't aware there was another size. If you are planning on only going "aggressive street" for your application, you might as well save a couple hundred dollars on the 5.3 heads.

On stock deck heads, with a decent custom port job, TR220/.558/114, LS6 intake, FLPs and custom tuning, I made 380/380.

Very mild mannered and works very well on the street. Gas mileage never suffered and it will easily pass emissions testing.

I too am looking for that magical 400rwhp AND torque

I am going with the LS1 Patriot S2s milled .020 to get my compression ratio up to about 10.5 or 10.6. The Patriot heads flow the same as my current heads up to about .500 lift and ramps up significantly at .600 lift.

I feel as though these heads will get me to 390, probably ... maybe. A cam change to a TR224/.561/114 should make that goal achievable.

The CR is low enough that pump gas will still be just fine

To be honest, I would do some more research and not take some stranger's advice off of the internet. The information you seek is out there ...
