i checked out this very sweet 1998 t/a, 95% chance i will be buying it, and i forgot to check the options for what gears it has. i would just like to know, i don't think it will stop me from buying this car however.

the car is fully loaded (NOT a ws6), auto, power everything, leather, 12 disc changer 500w monsoon, etc. it also has traction control. is there anyway to rule out that this car has 2.73's, IE could you not get traction control on 2.73's or something like that.

oh and what are the odds it has 273;s. i would imagine a fully loaded car would not... and how much slower 1/4 is a 2.73 gear car.

My car is fully optioned (has TCS, etc), and I've got A4 with 2.73s.

 

I know this doesn't answer your question, but if you get a good enough deal on the car, you can put some of the 'savings' toward a gear swap.

 

i know thats what i am thinking. i already made an offer on the car, without looking at it again. so i really won't know what gears it has until he accepts the offer. (he doens't know much about cars, im not gonna call him up and ask him to read option codes off the doors) the car is 2.5 hours away, so its not like i can drive by and check it out.

but thinking about it, even if they were the 273's,at least thats changeable, i can't change the car if it had high milage, or the color of it, all of which are perfect (uber low miles, color i want, all options i want)

On the end of the drivers side door there is a sticker with RPO codes. Look for the one that begins with G. GU2 means it has 2.73s, GU5 is the optional 3.23 for autos, and if it's a six speed it has 3.42s.

 

exactly is it a 6 speed? I can tell u these arn't slow at all if u could get it to grip once in a while, but the 3.42's are enough to keep u sideways second and 3rd, i can only imagine what it will run like with 3.73's can't wait till tomorrow, when i put them in

 

get the last 8 of the vin, i can tell you all it has.

 

If you can put it into 1st manually, it has the 3.23 peformance axle. If not, and you can only drop to 2, it's got 2.73's. This is for the autos. All LS1 6 speed cars came w/ 3.42's stock. Hope this helps!

98 red ta, t tops, keyless entry, neutral leather interior, 4l60e trans, 2.73 gear, eagle rsa tires (originally anyway), power seat, and am/fm with cassette with i think it shows a remote changer. one recall, already performed. that cover it?

oh well, its 273's, my worst fear, but if thats the only bad thing about the car, i can live with it

wrong. I have 2.73's and I can manually go into first, no questions asked

 

I have 2.73's and can select first gear as well.
