Losing Power Steering Fluid

Last night I found out that I have been losing power steering fluid and I think I know where it is coming out. On the front drivers side where a bunch of tubes come in and that is where the fluid is leaking out of. My question is is this an easy fix? If so what do I need to do? Do a lot of fbodys do this?

I'm not sure it this is your problem but when power steering pumps go they generally tend to leak alot. Try looking at the hoses like you said make sure they are all tightened and have proper clamps, after that make sure you add some fluid.

Good Luck

Come into where? The pump? resovoir? rack? Need more info here. Power steering repairs are generally easy though.

Re: Losing Power Steering Fluid

Okay im going to TRY to explain, but I have no idea on names of parts. When looking at the steering rod coming from the firewall and down it makes a bend and then goes into a thing that has lots of lines going out. Where the rod (about 2"-2.5 inches) goes into this "thing" (so sorry) it is losing fluid. I tightend all the lines below this and none we in need of it. I reached up higher and got fresh fluid on my fingers, so this is where the leak is. Is this an easy fix, or do I call the mechanic? I will try to take a picture tom and put a link below of the place I am speaking of.

Re: Losing Power Steering Fluid

In my hawk, I've got a power steering pump leakage that still has yet to be fixed and its going to end up costing me big time. I'm pretty sure its my seal leaking from my pump, as it holds alot of pressure and you have to pop the cap most times after driving it a while to release the excess pressure. It also loses fluid when it's just sitting, not running. As is well known, the PS pumps sit atop the alternator, and with this leakage, its already cost me one alternator and am getting ready to look at another. I know the symptoms from the first, and another one is getting ready to compe up. Whatever you do, fix the problem before it gets to your alternator. Thats a $140-$160 part you do NOT need to repair, if your not negligent.
