Welcome to my world, Thorin. It seems like every other post I make is about smog in CA because I can't afford to have them "take my soul" either. Logically I didn't think it would make much difference because all the Loudmouth does is make a way for the exhaust to get out easier, not make more exhaust (leave that to heads cams etc). But for good measure I called them ((732) 349-2109) and they said essentially the same thing. The only problem you may run into is noise pollution, accordinng to the rep. But who cares!! I ain't heard a Loudmouth (but I hear its damn nice) so I have no comparison. Hope this helps. Now all I have to worry about is passin smog when I get my cam and heads.... I hate CA. Later.

As long as functional cats are included in this system (or not modified by it) then you should still pass, as mufflers themselves really don't do anything about exhaust gasses, they just slow it down and make it slightly less noisy.

Yep, any cat back is smog legal, since nothing happens to the exhaust after it passes out of the cats. On the other hand, you might get a noise violation ticket, but in CA, your car has to be louder than 95 dB, which is pretty damn loud. If a shop gives you trouble about smogging it, go somewhere else.

For the muffler laws, check out: http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?id=27691

I think in CA you are also required to have a muffler. Not sure whether the loudmouth counts???

CA seems really complicated. In terms of electrics or loudmouth, the loudmouth is quieter. The electric cut outs are ment to be put in front of the cats to give you the option of driving without restrictive emmission equipment. If you put a cut outs after the cats and keep your stock exhaust you can go from quiet to loud just to show off.

Your catback has nothing to do with smog or pollution controll. It is simply there to muffle the noise.... hence the name muffler.
