Low Oil Light

Low Oil Light
So heres my story. I changed my oil one day and only put 5 quarts in (knowing I need 5.5) and after a little while the low oil light came on. I checked the oil, it was a little low, but I thought it had to be more than 2 quarts low for it to come on. Anyway I filled it up and the light was still on. I tried reseting, came right back on. After about 3 oil changes I finally changed the low oil sensor when I did my last oil change. I disconnected the battery for a hour. I started it up and the light was gone....for about 5 minutes. It's on yet again and I have NO clue why. The oil level is fine and the sensor is brand new and connected. Any ideas what else I should check to make this thing turn off? Is there a certain way to reset it besides just disconnecting the battery?

I don't see what resetting the oil life indicator would do for a low oil light, unless the 99's are different
But I could be wrong
Maybe the sensor has gone bad or the wire broke?

Re: Low Oil Light
OK you guys are on the wrong light Its the LOW oil light not the CHANGE oil light that is on. The change oil light comes on when you are supposed to change the oil and its reset by using the little button on the odometer. The LOW oil light is the one that is triggered from a sensor in your oil pan. The CHANGE oil light just appears after a certain number of miles.

I'm sure I said something about not seeing what resetting the oil life indicator would have to do with a low oil light

And just to make sure everyone is clear its the LOW oil light, not the oil life indicater aka change oil light. Huge difference.

Re: Low Oil Light
Did you check your fuses and relays? Any blown? A bad ground? Check all the wire for the sensor and follow it and see if you can see where it goes/if its corroded/broken/burnt on exhaust manifold/header, clean the connector with electrical contact cleaner too. Also try resetting the oil life monitor, see if it works, can't hurt.
