i was checking out this car for sale it was a 99 they want 8500 for it. it has firebird markings all over it. it all looks untouched but it has the dual exhaust pipes and 4 wheel discs. did they still make formulas? i never saw a 6 with the dual pipes and 4 wheel discs so is it a v8? i cant get a hold of the guy it has 35000 miles on it if its the ls1 ill be all up on it. thanks for any help.

 

It sounds like a v6 because it says firebird, yes dual exhaust was optional, if it was a formula it would have formula badges and ofcourse Tran am would have Trans am badges.

 

98+ V6s all have 4 wheel disk brakes and a dual outlet muffler is a option.

 

Could easily tell by popping the hood too.

 

only thing i can think of is climbing under the car and looking up towards the front og the engine seeing how much room is uner there. other then that check the speedo if it is a 150 it is an ls1. ummm only other chance you got is to go by the place where the car is all different times of the day till you catch someone with keys that will start it and pop the hood.

 

hmm.. or you could pop the hood and count the intake humps on the intake mani or check out the 'ole exhaust manis and count them too 4 on each side + 1999 model should = LS1 if it says firebird though think formula or v6

yea i cant get the hood up. it was wet so i really could not get under but what i could tell it looked crowded up front but i could be mistaken. i do know the oil filter is on the front of the engine but i never really looked at an ls1 so im clueless. speedo says 120 though?

 

oil filter is on the drivers side of the engine near the drain plug

dont the v6's have one fan on the raditor, where the v8s have dual?

 

Oil filter on the front and 120 speedo... definitely a V6.

 

sounds like a v6 to me, wat cheap for so low miles
