LS1/6 manifold question

My buddy has a 99 LS1 SS. He's new to this arena and I so Im offering a helping hand but am not solid.

He just picked up an LS6 intake manifold. Will this manifold just bolt on to an LS1? Will he need LS6 heads or anything else? I believe the LS6 is in a Cadallic.

The guy he bought it from has a supercharged LS6 and may in the future need the manifold back; Will an LS1 intake manifold bolt on to an LS6 motor?

By the way, what hp gains are expected?

I've done LT1 manifolds, is swapping LSX intake manifolds hard?

Thanks
Daniel

Re: LS1/6 manifold question

i wasn't aware that that any cady had the LS6...so you may want to check on that. as far as i know the LS6 was only found in the Z06 vette.

as for the install, it's straight forward, but you'll need the LS6 coolant tubes. check www.paceparts.com for them, they're about $35 or so.

it bolts right up to LS1 heads and throttle body. only thing that won't bolt up is the EGR tube. you'll have to block that off at the exhaust manifold. www.thunderracing.com sells the plate.

hp gains on bolt on cars are around 7-10hp, cammed motors more

CTS-V came w/an LS6

If I bought a manifold I sure as hell wouldn't give it back. He can go buy a new one for all I'd care.

LS6's were also found on all 01-02 F-bods.

"CTS-V came w/an LS6"

no kidding...cool.

"LS6's were also found on all 01-02 F-bods"

no...ls6 intake manifolds were in the 01/02 fbodies. and some recieved the ls6 block. none recieved the actual LS6 motor.

Re: LS1/6 manifold question

All 01+ LS1's and LS6's had the same intake. That would make the intake a 01 and newer intake, and not just a "ls6" intake..

Its not a hard swap. Just be patient because some things are hard to get at, especially if you have big paws. Go to ls1howto.com for some good instructions.

Yeah, I thought we were talking about the manifold and not the motor. My mistake.

Re: LS1/6 manifold question

One more thing. In regards to EGR deletion and check engine light coming on. How should one appoach this matter? Are there plates sold on Ebay for example to delete EGR? If one is going to a newer part available later, does smog pass?
Explain
thanks

Re: LS1/6 manifold question

you can buy a block off plate from several of the vendors on the this site, i know i got mine from Thunder Racing for a few bucks. or just make some out of some sheet metal.

as far as emissions goes, altering the factory provisions in any way is technically illegal, and could cause you to fail. whether the tech picks it up or cares is another matter.

maybe if you put a $50 bill in place of the EGR unit
