How much are a working set of LS1 heads and LS1 block worth? My brother is wanting to build a carbed LS1 from scratch. Is $400 for both a good deal?

 

That sounds like a good buy going off the prices in my area. heads alone are usually $200+. A new LSx aluminum block is around $1000 i think.

 

It's not bad.

 

The block alone is a pretty good deal, the heads can be found for next to nothing, i gave mine away for free.

 

If he's building from scratch have him pick up a set of 243 (ls6/2) heads. Much better then the standard 241 ls1 heads (62cc vs 66; better ports; true ls6 heads had lighter valves...)

~$500 used.

Although if money is an issue LS1 heads can still make good power.
