LS1 Cam Swap Vid on quickperformance.com

Hey all I just saw this video on a www.quickperformance.com about LS1 cam swap, seemed like the guy did it without taking the balancer off and just left the timing chain on. Is this really possible if you're not planning on changing the timing chain/gear or oil pump? I'm not planning on putting in a very big cam, probably 224/224. Any comments on this, btw here is the vid!

Also, the tool he used for holding the lifters, sold on thunderracing.com, how do you get it in? Do you still have to crank on the balancer 'til the lifters reach the top or does it just slid in without effort?

Thanks.

Quicktime makes a special timing chain cover that allows for easier cam swaps. Unless you have their setup, you can't do it that way. The stock one-piece timing cover can't be removed unless you pull the balancer.

The lifter tool goes in pretty easily and I didnt have to turn the motor over to get them in...sounds bad but my buddy (he owned the car) went to a fabric type store and bought long wooden rods about 1/2" thick and we cut them of length and used those and they worked fine, think he paid like less than a $1 for both lol. We did grind one end to a point to help them slide in.

You do HAVE to pull the timing cover and balancer, you also have to loosen many of the oil pan bolts to get that PAIN IN THE @$$ oil pump tube in and out (only if you want some room to get to it though). The car needs to be jacked up atleast in the front to drop the A/C condenser down b/c the camshaft will NOT clear it when its coming out/in.
