Post Is the LS1 Durable?

I've heard that the LS1 engine is not very durable, although nothing substantiated with fact.

I'm aware of the oil consumption issue and improper spark plug hole machining, but assume these issues were addressed on later LS1's.

Are there any other issues with the LS1 that would deter someone from keeping it longer than 100k miles?

I have a '94 LT1 with 170k miles. Still runs strong, doesn't burn oil. I'm considering a 2002 Z28 or maybe a C5.

I've seen a lot of posts about higher mileage LS1's. I believe it comes down to how it's maintained. I also think you'll see some that have been hammered hard. I owned a '98 Z28 that had about 20000 miles when I sold it and she didn't use a drop of oil. My '02 SS seems to be a good one too, didn't use any oil in the first 3000 miles. She has Mobil 1 in her now and hasn't used a drop since I changed it. In my opinion, they're very durable motors if maintained. Good luck in your search.

So far my SS is as (if not more) dependable as my '95 Nissan Truck. In one year I put 53,000 miles on mine (it's my daily driver) and I have not had to replace anything, only the oils and filters. My 2001 doesn't even have an oil comsumption issue, nor the so-called piston slap. I am not easy nor baby my SS, it is raced and leaves it's impressions at my work's parking lot. Of course there is this loud sound coming from my exhaust, usually accompained by premature tire wear.
