LS1 to LS6 Questions
I'm looking at doing an LS1 swap on either a 1991 or 1992 Z28. I wanna know what do I need to turn my LS1 powerplant into an LS6???

If you want LS6 performance out of your LS1 you could go w/ a good cam and maybe the LS6 intake along w/ some bolt'ons(exhaust, ect.) I would tell you to stay away from the ls1 swap. Get a modified LT1. It will be easier to adapt to your car and cheaper. LS6 heads, LS6 intake along w/ LS6 cam are the major diff btwn the 2 motors. Hope that helps some.

Well that wasn't exactly the response I'd hoped in getting but I guess posting stuff on this board leaves you open to critisizm. But I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks for the post. I would like more than ONE opinion on this. I mean I've had 20 some views and only one person has looked at it. Surely there is someone out there that could help me out. I mean if get enough I may go ahead and use an LT1 and do the mods myself but come on I'm gonna need some help here. Thanks for posting j_rock.

Definitely stick to the LT1, and that's not because I'm biased
But seriously, he was right, it would be much easier to adapt your car for the LT1 rather than the LS1-LS6....but it is doable non-the-less...just will cost you a great deal more when using the LSx engine In my opinion

search www.ls1tech.com .... plenty of LS1 vs. LS6 info.
My understanding:
2002 LS1 has: LS6 intake, LS6 block (but no bay to bay breating), LS6 clutch but has 6.0L truck cam and LS1 heads
2001 LS1: Some have LS6 intake, all have LS1 cam, heads, block.
1998-2000 LS1: LS1 intake, LS1 cam, LS1 heads, LS1 block.
To make the engine a true LS6....I think you'd need to get a true LS6 block for the 2002 (it is a heavy debate, some say it has bay to bay, some say it doesn't for the f-body), you'd also have to get the PCV Valley cover, computer, and the LS6 cam. In addition to the LS6 heads.
Rather than convert, you could pick up a heads/cam package (suggest you check thunderracing or MTI) and put you ahead of the LS6.

I thought about doing that, I know that there is a HUGE difference between the LS1 and the LS6, like you said, the PCV is all internal. I'm still not sure yet what I want to do. The reason why I want to do a conversion is because, well A it would be something fun to do, B No one in my area has anything or from what I see even thought of doing a conversion on a 3rd Gen from a TPI, TBI to a LT1 or LS1, and C a really good sleeper car. Please keep the suggestions coming. I took a look at LS1tech.com last nite, I didn't find much my first look, I'll take a look again though, thanks.

Is this the web site you were refering to?
http://www.phoenixpontiacbuickgmc.com/
I went under Sponsers at LS1.com and found that web site, it says they're based in Pennsylvania. I was just wondering if this was the right web site.

I dont know excatly where you are lookin to go w/ your car. I built up my 89 IROC. It had the TBI 305 w/ the 5spd and 3.08 rear. I put a 77 block(383 4 bolt) that i pulled from some guys project gone wrong. I rigged the TBI onto the motor and it ran pretty good. I wanted to go w/ the TBI and the vortec heads but they didnt have an intake that would make it work. Right after I sold the camaro...they came out w/ the intake. I spent 500 bucks on a new cluch, new flywhell, and the engine. I would run neck and neck w/ most LT1's. If you want to save some money and not get too crazy you can get a 350 w/ the vortec heads, a good cam, and produce some good power for cheap. If you find a LT1 engine/tranny combo for cheap, I would jump on it. I was only 19 when I did the swap. Now I wish I just had the money that was back then and the wrench time I have now. There are soo many options for your car. Good luck w/ whatever you do.

You need to decide how fast you wanna go... and why youre doing this. Do you want power.. or do you want to just be able to tell ppl you have ____ in your ride?
If you want power.. *shrug* heads/cam ls1 will probably satisfy you. We're rolling 430ish rw with small cams & our heads.. & well.. ls6's.. more power.. but $$$.
I'd go LS1, or SBC... and probably SBC first, depending upon what you can pick up a low mile ls1 for.
