Those are not comparable to LSx motors, by no means. And they are VERY obsolete, but still practicle by all means. Except maybe the Windsor, parts get tricky on those things.

When considering all the engines, you really must draw the line between carb and EFI. There are a lot of guys still stuck in the days of 350 crate motors with a holley owns everything. The LS1 ushered in a huge realization of EFI for the SBC and the regular guy, not to mention a total redesignation of the SBC and power production.

You can't exactly compare Gen 1 SBC and SBF to the LS1 as there are, generally, completely different markets. I can't, very well, think of older motors running EFI. The reliability and cooperation of EFI and forced induction is also a huge key to the boom in our market. I still get guys wondering why I put turbos on these little "queer motors" when I could "get me a 350 with a blowa and two fours!"

Who knows about the future of oil, The General, or the world; we are guessing about tomorrow when today is questionable.

It's the granddaddy of the new age SB. The LS7 is the newest and greatest, and the LS2/LS6 are basically in between.

The LSx series of engines are very very popular nowadays I don't see it dieing off anytime soon. I just wish the LTx line would have reached LSx series popularity. There are just one too many people out there asking questions. Like, "Which is better LT1 or LS1?" Odds are, if you can't do it with an LT1 you probably can't do it with an LS1 either, and vice versa. Obsolete is so harsh of a word to use. My friend is has built a 500+hp Gen1 small block. To call that obsolete would just be an insult.

Final Answer. No.

My LS1 was pretty easy to mod, 289rwhp (stock) to 425rwhp with just heads, cam, injectors, FAST intake, 90mm throddle body and headers. Given certain mods, you can overbuild the lS6 and blow out the bottom end compared to the same mods to the LS1.

Since my LS7 has high compression, I've yet to see anything out there for forced induction that doesn't blow the walls out of the block. So, for now I have just added headers and a dyno tune. Went from 450rwhp (stock) to 497rwhp with just those 2 mods
