Post LS1 problems

I have have various problems with my 2000 Z28. It is bone stock except for a K&N Air Filter. The problems I've had include the alternator bracket pulley, one oxygen sensor, and BOTH catalytic converters. That is just the engine related problems. I ALWAYS use 93 octane Shell (non-ethanol prefered). The engine runs good and I maintain it accordingly. The car currently has 38000 miles. Any idea if these problem are common? I've read other posts and they were very helpful. I just hope to learn a thing or two. By the way, I am the original owner of this car. Thank you.

I've yet to have any problems with my Z that I didn't create (ie clutch, rear, torque arm) Everything else has been pretty much bullet proof.

I have a 2002 Z28 and after 2000 miles the check engine light came on and I had to get one of the catylitic converters replaced also, nobody could tell me what caused it. Also I had to have the rotors replaced after 4000 miles cuz they warped, other than that my car is fine.

Ok I've had some problems with my car as well. It now has 47,000. I drive it everwhere. Cars were made to be driven so I drive mine.

1. Warped Rotors 2x. Had fixed both times. Got fed up and ordered some Power Slots. Not much more than the price of GM replacements. Hawk Pads also.

2. Radio went bezerks on me. It faded in and out and it wasn't the SCV either cause I turned that off to see if I was going nuts. It was the radio. It was replaced.

3. Blew speakers 2x. Had them replaced. Darn Sevendust cranked blows the speakers. But hey it was under warranty. I'm working on getting some replacements in it. But want other mods first.

4. Had O2 Valve go bad. Replaced that. easy install. Part was $30.00

5. OK don't laugh at this one. I was driving down the road and my visor fell off and hit me dead smack in the forhead. Luckily it wasn't my nose or that really would of hurt. LOL It was like something you'd see in a comedy movie. Had that replaced.

6. Had a P0430 code. Catalitic Converter efficienct low. Turned off after a week and has never come back on.

That seems to be all for now...or atleast it better be. Hope this helps. Plus I'm the original owner of my car as well. read signature to see mods if you want to.

Wow now im a little worried about my new Z28 now. I havent had any problems yet, at about 2400 miles right now, I go as easy on the brakes as I can in a crowded city like Chicago, and trust me it aint easy. I try to not do too much crazy stuff with her yet, but sometimes its hard to pass up Anyway I would be pretty pissed if my cats went bad already. Well hopefully GM gave me a good car or they will be gettin an earfull from me!

My problems, with 23,000 miles on the clock:

1. O2 sensor went bad, dealer replace under warranty.

2. Engine makes a ticking noise. Took it to the dealer and they said it was just normal valve-train noise.

That's all for now. By the way, I bought the car only last month.

Just to put your mind at ease on the catalytics. It's a known issue.

There was a bad batch of cats in the 2000 model year and early production 2001's.

My 2001 Z28 (built 10/00) needed the driver's side cat replaced at 10,000 miles.

My 2001 T/A WS6 started showing the same symptoms. It had to have both cats replaced. Care to guess the build date? 10/00

So, I wouldn't worry about the cats. As for the O2 sensor, it's standard practice to replace the O2 sensor first, and if it doesn't solve it, replace the cat. The computer throws the same code for a bad O2 as it does for a malfunctioning cat.

They replaced the O2 sensor first on your car, right? Then they said the catalytics were shot?

Thank you everyone. This is extremely helpful. Keep it coming. Other problems include an alarm shock sensor and an HVAC control head. All repairs are under warranty except the rotors which I did myself. This particular car was born in 8/99. It was one of the first Z28s delivered to the Chicagoland area and I bought it before they put the window sticker on. My wife is not to fond of this gem . But when we we remove the t-tops and head down Lake Shore Drive, all is forgiven.
