LS1 SES code

I finally bought a 2001 camaro z28 about a week ago. since then i have had the SES light come on. the code is P1416, which is related to the AIR pump.

i took it to the dealer and he reset the code and told me to keep driving it and see if it came back.

well, sure enough, two days later the SES light is on again.

whats the story with this particular code? what things should i be looking for?

the car is an M6, bone stock with no mods and about 50k miles.

any opinions would be appriecated!

thanks,
tony

A 1 as the first digit indicates that it is a manufactures code versus a 0 whichmeans an SAE code. I have no book for man. codes.
Now if it was a P0416 that's a AIR valve B circuit open.

1416 is the passenger side AIR check valve. < 20 bucks at Autozone, easy fix. At least it was for me, but I have heard of valves welding themselves to the down tube that goes to the exhaust manifold requiring both be replaced.

Yep, P1416 is the passenger side air check valve, or a leak in the pipe or hose connection to it - easy to fix yourself. Or if you bought it from a dealer have them do it free. The GM PN for the valve is 12565503 (same for either side).

just trying to do a little research first to make sure they're aren't blowing crap up my a##.

is it ok to drive it until i take it in, or should it sit until fixed?

It's fine to drive with an AIR code, but with the SES on you won't know if it throws another code. Sometimes dealers will change both check valves with a P1416 or P1415.
