Ls1 Z28 Vs SS

What are the performance dif between these two cars?

I am thinking of trading my formula in on a LS1 car.

My buddys 96 SS has headers on it. Do then LS1 SS's have them?

Basicaly I am just wondering if its worth the extra cash to get a SS.

Also I would probably be looking to transfer my nitrous kit over to my new car. Whats the word on the LS1? How stong are the stock internals?

I have hear of people blowing them up with lik #6 of boost.

his car didnt come with headers stock..
No SS gets a header. uses the same setupd the z28's do unless you change them

And you can blow a car up on a 50 shot.. or 4 psi... anything is possible, they are no different than the lt1 on what they can handle..

Harlan is running 15psi on a stock crank and made over 700 to the wheels. stock ls1 crank

his car came stock with SLP headers.

And I was looking for a general idea of how strong/good the pistons and rods are.

also is ram air *assuming its ram air, and dif exhaust the only dif in a SS?

BTW Way nice car... ALso did you make your duel exhaust or was that a kit? Whats your cost on it. And how does it sound.... (bad *** I am assuming)

Well he supposedly bought it from the original owner, and has the window sticker and it says something to the effect of SLP performance pack or somehting.

so what did it cost you (exhaust)? I am assuming you have LTs and the an custom setup right?

As far as I know that performance pack is:
-Hood
-Spoiler
-Suspension
-Exhaust
-Badges
And I think that's about it.Headers were NOT an option and the HP difference between a regular Z and a SS is hardly anything, maybe like 10hp.

Well they get a catback, but no headers.

I dunno what it was, $3xx.00 plus mufflers.. they made the x-pipe so thats included. Im running the BMR trac pack with the Tq arm that mounts on a cross brace. Fits really nice because of the that with no ground clearance issues. Also my car is not lowered.

I have Mac headers on my car. I had them jet hot coated and i love them.

Basically, get the SS if you want the looks. Their is really no difference in power. The SS comes with 17's, hood scoop, and a little better suspension than a Z. Power wise, it's got a 3 inch catback instead of 2.75. and the ram air. The ram air doesn't do much, and you can do the free ram air on the Z. Also, i'm sure you're going to change the exhaust setup anyway, so I'd say it's up to what you want. If you want looks go with the SS. If you don't care and just want the car for power, get the Z and with the money you save, you can start modding it and if you want the looks later on, you can pick up a set of 17' chrome zr1's and a nice hood (my favorite is the suncoast ultra Z style hood) and a rear spoiler.

And as for the strength of the LS1, i've heard the bottom end can safely handle up to 600 rwhp, but once you start to get over that, it starts to get iffy. That's just what I heard, so don't quote me on that, cause i'm not positive.

I can't believe a fellow z owner would diss one for an ss. hahaha
IMO, Z is the way to be

Dude, I DIDN'T DISS THE Z!!!!! I love my baby, why you think I got it!!!!! I'm just tryin to give the guy a run down and let him decide what he wants. I want the car for the power, IMO it looks great how it is as a Z, but the SS does look a little nicer, but i'd rather have the Z (cause all the extra stuff that comes on the SS is just gonna get changed by me anyway, so it ain't worth it, except the rims!) and do all the power **** first, then if I feel like adding more looks, i'll add the looks that I like!!!! Like one day, I so badly wanna get that suncoast ultra z style hood, that ****'s hot!!!!!! I also want the 5 spoke 17' chrome rims off of my year SS!!! That's really about it for looks though, more into the go of the car than the show, so all the looks mods will be the last ones done!!!!!

Why would anyone do that to a Z28? Besides, new or used, it's cheaper to just buy an SS if that's the look you want.

I just bought a 2002 Z28 in June and I honestly thought about that, but my car is black, so the emblems are hard to see anyways
