LS3 into a 1993 LT1 Camaro

Thinking about dropping this motor

http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/En...1224&engCat=ls

or

http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/En...1992&engCat=ls

into my 1993 Camaro. If I pick up the harness and controller will I be able to use my stock guages or is it a wiring nightmare?

What are the differences between the two motors? Heads and intake?

I haven't decided on a transmission yet. Thinking either T56 or wait and see what new 6 speed auto the new Camaro comes with.

It should be similar to a LS1 swap in an LT1 Camaro.

You'll have to use the LS computer and gauges or deal with a wiring nightmare

The only difference that they talk about is a bigger cam.... which is still TINY at 219/228 .525 lift.

Why not build a stroker 402 or 404 LS2 or big LQ9 motor? Warranty?

Do a search on my name and you'll see tons of examples of other builds.

I need something QUIET and with better gas mileage. My work hates my current LE2 cammed 383 and I have to use my car for work sometimes. It would help if I got better than 12 mpg.

I was really hoping I could use my current guages due to insurance. Otherwise I might just go autometer on a brushed metal background instead.

Grip.. check out http://www.speartech.com/ for the wiring harness.

They might be able to make something work that will connect and work with your gauges. At the very least they know wtf they are talking about and can definitely steer you in the right direction

The LSx motors will work with your stock LT1 gauges. The LSx PCm can be tunned to work your tach, the oil pressure sending unit works fine with the stock LT1 gauge, and a98 LS1 dual temp sensor will work with your LT1 gauges.

Your gonna need a LOT of other pieces which will nickle and dime you to death unless you have or have access to a parts car.

I would just build an iron LQ9 (408ci 4.030" x 4.00") with some L92 heads and an L76 intake for cheap and make 600+ crank horsepower with a relatively tame cam (low 240s duration, .600-.625" lift and 112 LSA).

The LQ9 block you can get for a few hundred bucks used, the L92 heads are around $1000 assembled from GM, the L76 intake manifold is around $250, then you'll have to buy injectors, a cam, pushrods, headers, etc, etc.

The big thing is the LS bottom end, which is around $2800 for the Eagle forged stuff that comes with JE pistons... big money compared to the Gen II stuff.

I'll keep it in mind thanks. My current LT1 cam is high 230s low 240s duration with a 109 LSA or so. So its choppy, loud, stinks of gas, and makes me best friends with every gas attendent in town.

Can active engine management be programmed into any LS PCM or is it only available on new vehicles?

I'm looking for 500 hp with like stock drivability to keep my boss happy.

The LS3 is the first GM engine to have it... it's pretty ridiculous, considering that LS1s usually see around 28mpg highway.

why fool around with a ls3, go for 400+ cubes and ls7 or l92 heads. I have been looking into this too, and there are a ton of little bs parts your going to need. Look on ls1tech you ll find more info there.
